Ingram Valley: Award winning lamb delivered to your door
As a family we eat a varied diet and, although we try and eat plant based for two days each week, the rest of the time we do eat a lot of meat. Last year, after battling back and forth with our conscience, we made the decision to attempt to eat only sustainably produced meat and, for the most part, we have done just that. So when Ingram Valley contacted us to try one of their spring lamb meat boxes delivered to our door, I was intrigued to learn a little more.
Ingram Valley
Ingram Valley, situated amid Northumberland’s Cheviot Hills, was volcanically formed 480 million years ago and has been sustainably farmed for thousands of years producing nutritious and mouth-wateringly tasty meat. I have loved learning more about the history of Ingram Valley, following their timeline on the website from as far back as the melting of the ice formations right through to 1949 when the Wilson family arrived who still today farm sheep, cattle and venison.

Sustainability
Ingram Valley promote sustainable farming with such passion and dedication and put this into practice every single day on the farm. They do this by using the sustainability goals set by the UN to help guide their continual projects and clearly list these here on their website. They share how they do more with less to reduce degradation and pollution, while educating people on sustainable consumption and lifestyles.
They use renewable energy and other measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reduce the effects of global warming, protect biodiversity and wildlife conservation through responsible and management, and use sustainable, recyclable materials both big and small. Ordinarily their meat is shipped in recyclable boxes and yet on the rare occasion, or due to the current pandemic with a high demand for online meat boxes, they have to use polystyrene boxes for delivery. Before shipment I received an email to inform me of this with a suggestion to use the polystyrene box as a planter afterwards and I loved that even during a pandemic, when the use of recyclable boxes is not possible, Ingram Valley are still trying their hardest to encourage their customers to reuse these boxes. I think that speaks volumes!
Ingram Valley work with the Planet Mark to continually monitor their carbon footprint and do this through the use of electric vehicles where possible and solar powered charging. Their passion for sustainable farming extends to where they actually host educational visits for schools and universities to raise awareness of their practices, again something which I find hugely commendable. And for every 50 lambs. sold they plant a tree or hedgerow for further carbon sequestering and wildlife preservation.
Having researched all of this thoroughly, I can honestly say that I have never come across a farm quite as dedicated to sustainability as this, and with award winning grass fed livestock, I couldn’t wait to try our spring lamb meat box delivery.

Lamb loin chops
Ingram Valley offer half or whole lamb boxes, lamb taster boxes, lamb mince, venison boxes and beef boxes coming soon.
Our box arrived promptly, well packaged and carefully labelled which was perfect for freezing. For our first dish we tried the roasting leg of lamb, slow cooked in the oven and the smell alone was incredible! I have enjoyed lamb dishes at countless restaurants over the years, right across the country where they boast some of the best lamb you can offer, and yet honestly, the lamb from Ingram Valley is by far the best we have ever tasted. Not only was it tasty and tender and literally falling from the bone, but it was far leaner than any lamb we have ever tasted whilst still being mouthwateringly juicy.
If you’re aiming for more responsible consumerism and to eat more sustainable produce, I can’t recommend Ingram Valley enough. I know in the past I have beat myself up about our meat consumption and yet this way, I feel as though we are doing the best we can whilst making the right choices for our family. You can check out their online shop and read more about their sustainable farming on their website – www.ingramvalley.co.uk.
