My Weekly Round Up: Sunshine, Slime, and Sounds of the 80’s!!

This year is flying by in a blur and somehow we are almost in April and so many of the things I set out to do this year and still on my list, buried in paperwork, on a very messy, and hugely disorganised, desk. One thing I really wanted to do this year was to get back to weekly round ups, sharing the snapshots of our week, the things we have loved, and sometimes the things which perhaps we haven’t. Obviously it’s a little later in the year than planned, but there is no time like the present, so here we go!

This week I have read You Were Gone, by Tim Weaver, and although it took me a while to get into it (life has a habit of getting in the way!), when I found the time to sit and read I finished the whole thing in one sitting.

You Were Gone is a page-turning thriller and begins when a woman walks into a police station with no phone, no ID, just a piece of paper with the name of missing persons investigator David Raker on it. She tells the officers that Raker is her husband and when he turns up at the station, Raker is stunned. The woman looks exactly like his wife. She knows all about their marriage, their history, even private conversations the two of them had. There’s just one problem: Raker’s wife has been dead for eight years. I won’t spoil the story for you but it kept me guessing right until the very end! It’s definitely one I would recommend!

No coats!!! The weather has been gorgeous this week and we enjoyed getting out and about without our coats and basking in the Spring sunshine. There is something so lovely about these first sunny days of the year after a long and cold Winter, and everyone seems so much happier when the sun is shining. Today my Dad has been over to build a new bench for the garden and as I sat on it, enjoying a break from work, I couldn’t help but feel excited at everything to come over the next few months.

I’d love to sit here and tell you that we made cakes, or cookies, or something utterly delicious which the children ate up without a fuss….but all we really made this week was a mess!! Our week has consisted of slime and other gloopy goo’s which have sent my blood pressure through the roof and had me on my hands and knees scraping it from the floor, scrubbing it from sleeves, and making empty threats to ban it from the house for good. My kids love slime and as much as I hate the stuff, literally nothing makes them happier than squidging and squeezing it and getting slimy and sticky!

This week we have been listening to some 80’s classics and enjoying our bedtime boogie each evening. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the kids dancing around the kitchen to a bit of Whitney and it’s the cutest thing ever to hear them singing along. Parenting is tough, and there is always something to be done – jobs around the house, clubs to run back and forth to, home work to do, spellings to learn, baths to be had, and so those ten minutes each day when we dance around the house are very much needed to just let loose, laugh ourselves stupid, and spend some time together away from the daily grind.

This week I have been watching The Bay, the second instalment in the ITV series which started last week. The Bay is a six part series set in Morecambe, not too far from me, following the disappearance and subsequent murder of two twins. I love this kind of show, one that keeps you hanging, is full of twists and turns, and ultimately draws you in for an hour each week. It’s definitely my Wednesday highlight and I’m already looking forward to next weeks episode!
