** WIN ** Creating your very own playground with Wickey

The last few months have been difficult for all of us, missing friends, family, travel, schools, our daily routines we knew like the back of our hands. And yet for our children it’s the little things they seem to miss the most, the things we took for granted each week, trips to the park, playing on the swings, digging in the sand pit. So because of that I’ve been sharing some tips on how to create our very own playground in the garden using some amazing play apparatus from Wickey.

Consider the size of your garden

With so many incredible play sets to choose from it can be easy to forget the size of your garden and before you know it there’s room for little else. Before you start introducing play items into the garden think about yours and your children’s priorities, their ages, how much space the area will need to be able to enjoy the equipment, and your budget for the playground area. We love that Wickey caters for all budgets and have play equipment for every garden.

Sand fun

I know a lot of parents often shudder at the mention of sand, assuming introducing a sand pit will lead to a lot of mess! Wickey offers a range of wooden sandpits and I can’t stress enough how much I recommend choosing a sandpit with lid. Not only does it protect the sand from the rain and keep it fresh for longer,  but it also contains the mess and can be closed when not in use and, with the natural wood designs, is unobtrusive in your garden space.

Safety First

As with all children’s playgrounds it’s important to make sure the area is safe and secure for your children and Wickey offer a number of ways to do this. It’s important to anchor all play equipment with the correct attachments and you can find a number of safety anchors in the online shop. If you’re creating a playground area at home you may want to consider protective flooring such as safety mats available in various sizes, depths and even as artificial grass.

Introduce a Playhouse

One of the best things we bought for our garden was a playhouse, not only for the children to enjoy playing in but doubling up as a place to store some of the smaller play items the children use in the garden. A playhouse is a great way for the children to use their imaginations, changing from a home one day to a sweet shop the next, a castle, a school, a secret island cave. It’s always lovely to watch them play!

With us spending all this time at home there has never been a better time to make a start on your garden playground. Hopefully the good weather will return and we can enjoy being outdoors with the children knowing they have plenty to occupy them, are staying safe, and having fun!
