Back to school name labels with Petit Fernand

When it comes to labelling clothes, I’ve learned the hard way just how important it is to label everything. With Lewis at 13, we have lost more jumpers and PE pumps than I care to mention over the years, all because I was too lazy busy to sew in name labels each year. Working as a teaching assistant whilst Lewis was young, I lost count of the number of items of lost property we would be left with at the end of each term, not to mention the queue of angry parents demanding to know where their child’s brand new trainers or school coat had disappeared to!

And so, somewhat reluctantly, I would spend every weekend before the return to school sewing in name labels or investing in various pens and stamps which promised not to fade in the wash, inevitably doing so just a few weeks in. This year, with three in school and one in pre-school, the thought of sewing in over one hundred labels for every item of clothing my children would wear each week was just too much to bear. And that’s where Petit Fernand pretty much saved the day.

Petit Fernand is a Paris based company which offers original, fun and easy to use products to help out us parents and please our kids. The best part is that all of their products are 100% customisable so that not only can they can match your children’s personalities but they are easily recognised by children of all ages.

My favourite thing about Petit Fernand is that, alongside smaller sets, you can buy a name label value pack, priced at £30 for 140 name labels, customise them all in one go, and you are literally set for the whole school year!

The value sets comprise of –

20 stick on labels,
20 iron on labels (1 line of text),
40 mini item stickers,
30 item stickers (1 line),
20 item stickers (2 lines)
10 shoe labels.

For those whose children wear less clothes than mine, the value packs could last two, even three years, making them even more of a bargain! All of the labels are customised starting with the name, the font style and colour, the background design and a choice of icon – something which my children were hugely excited about! With so many categories and pictures to choose from it still came as no surprise that the girls both chose unicorns and Harry chose a rocket.

The value packs come in handy little books to keep them all together, along with full instructions on how to apply each label, be that iron or stick on.

They even come with protective paper for ironing and protective over-lay stickers for the shoe labels – perfect for sweaty feet!!

The stick on labels are by far my favourite, given the fact that I will do just about anything to avoid ironing, and they are just so easy to use! Simply stick onto the brand label or washing instructions tag on any item of clothing, press down firmly and avoid washing for 24 hours. Even better, all labels are washing machine and tumble dryer resistant!

I love that with Harry and Megan unable to read just yet, they can still recognise their clothing, shoes and any other items, simply from their label design and personal icon.

Where as previous years have taken me up hours to sew on name labels, this year I was done for all four children in under half an hour. It would no doubt have been less had the children not tried to help me but I can now verify that the name labels do not stick effectively to your children’s eyelids…..!!

I would totally recommend Petit Fernand for custom made name labels and I am grateful that next weekend I will be relaxing with a large glass of wine, safe in the knowledge that the children’s clothes are fully labelled, mentally preparing myself for that first school run of the year. Wish me luck!!

I really need stick on labels in my life. I’ve lost one to many cardigans to mention. I love the fun designs of these

Haha me too! I wonder if they do a wine icon?! xx

  2. August 26, 2017 / 5:18 am

Wow what a life saver! These look great, I like the little pack they come in to keep them altogether. What I think is great about the stick on ones, is when it comes to non-uniform days you can quickly grab one and stick on once your child has tried on a hundred different outfits and decided what to wear!

Haha me too! They are so handy and I love that you can personalise them all too, so cute! Although with Eva and Megan choosing the same I’ll be double taking every time! xx

I haven’t gotten this far in school prep, yet. But it’s definitely a must need item especially with so many little ones bits in classrooms etc x

I think name labels should be at the top of every parents list, saves a lot of money long term replacing lost items! xx

  4. August 26, 2017 / 7:22 pm

They look really lovely and the designs are very nice, its a good idea for little ones to recognise the picture in their clothes. I’ll be interested to hear how these stand the washing test. Mich x

As a teacher, I can totally relate to the mountains of lost property and parents seeking out lost property. The labels are so cute though and stick on labels are such a good idea!

      August 27, 2017 / 9:35 pm

Yes! Nothing worse than lost property and angry parents missing cardigans! xx

  7. August 27, 2017 / 1:09 am

I think I could use some of these to label the cheetah’s snacks in the pantry. Pretty clever idea….

Every year I tell myself I’ll order something like this, then every year I end up scribbling on everything last minute with biro, #mumfail

      August 27, 2017 / 9:23 pm

Haha that’s usually me but this year I was ahead of the game! Doesn’t happen often! xx

  11. August 27, 2017 / 3:35 pm

I definitely need some of these! My little boy is terrible for using his sweaters as goal posts at play time and then forgetting to take them back into the class room! I wonder if they stick to water bottles? That is another problem we have.

    • Laura Dove
      August 27, 2017 / 9:20 pm

They do yes, but they also do personalised water bottles Rachel!! Even better! xx

I remember my mum doing the same! I am useless at sewing so these are perfect! xx

    • Laura Dove
      August 27, 2017 / 9:14 pm

Me too! I could have guessed the girls would choose unicorns! xx

  15. August 27, 2017 / 6:18 pm

I love that they’re stick on. So easy to use without all that sewing!

    • Laura Dove
      August 27, 2017 / 9:13 pm

Yes definitely! So much quicker! xx

  16. August 27, 2017 / 6:53 pm

They are fab aren’t they? I’m a huge fan! xx

  19. August 27, 2017 / 8:53 pm

I like the fact that there is a variety of types of labels in each pack. It’s all well and good getting iron on tags but you can’t put then in shoes so these types of packs seem ideal!

    • Laura Dove
      August 27, 2017 / 9:07 pm

Yes definitely! Iron on are great for clothes but shoes are impossible! I’ve used permanent marker pens previously for shoes but even they rub off! xx

  20. August 27, 2017 / 8:57 pm

We have stick on labels too. They come in so handy and they don’t come off in the wash which is great.

    • Laura Dove
      August 27, 2017 / 9:07 pm

They are so easy aren’t they? I love them! xx

  21. August 27, 2017 / 10:00 pm

Wow so many stickers for such a great price! I love stick on labels – I’m rubbish at sewing anything

      August 28, 2017 / 5:22 pm

Me too! I label EVERYTHING!! xx

  22. August 27, 2017 / 10:11 pm

  24. August 28, 2017 / 3:45 am

oh these are super cute. I have just started discovering the missing items when timmy goes to pre school and his socks or jumpers have been miss placed, luckily its not a big school and most times they get returned…but recently i have been thinking i need labels!

    • Laura Dove
      August 28, 2017 / 5:20 pm

      August 28, 2017 / 9:12 pm

I agree, we go through way too many! xx

Really easy, I’m not great at sewing! xx

  30. August 28, 2017 / 9:14 pm

Oh i haven’t labelled my kids school clothes yet! I use good old fashioned biro pen but these labels seem a much easier and permanent option. I have tried the iron on labels before but they didn’t last so i was put off. Missing school uniform is so frustrating and sometimes costly.

    • Laura Dove
      August 28, 2017 / 10:51 pm
