Our Wonderful Week: Things are looking brighter 3/52

Three weeks into the New Year and I’ll be honest with you, it feels like the longest three weeks of all time! January is hard work isn’t it? We have been utterly exhausted, struggling to get up each morning, reluctant to knuckle down and get any work done (me and the kids!) and longing for just a little bit of sunshine on these grey and miserable days.

It’s been a real mixed week which got off to a bad start with me still reeling from the aftermath of being poorly, but by the weekend we woke to glorious sunshine (albeit it sub zero temperatures!) and we managed to cram a lot of fun into those two short days.

We had a long over due catch up with friends and their twins and the children were in their absolute element taking care of them. Our children don’t have any cousins of their own age and yet in 2018 when two of our best friends both had twins, they suddenly found themselves with four little cousins to love and grow up with. I love how happy that makes them, the ways in which even Harry, the roughest and toughest child you can imagine, is still so gentle with them. The way that Meggy’s little face lights up with love when one of them sits on her knee or gives her a cuddle, and how Eva takes her role as a big cousin so seriously, sitting as still as a statue when she has one of them in her arms.

On Sunday we returned to our favourite place, Formby Point, with the children and Oscar, and another couple of friends and their twins. It was lovely to just walk and talk and let the children run wild and we all agree we should do it more often. It’s difficult the older you get, and the busier you get, to find time to catch up with friends and last year I was guilty far too often of cancelling our planned meet ups or missing out due to being ill. This year I really want to spend more time with friends, particularly those who are going through a tough time at the moment, and do more of the things that make us happy.

And so that was it, my last weekend in my thirties, spent in the sunshine, in my favourite place, with the people I love. I’d say that’s a great way to say goodbye to my thirties, a decade that saw all of my dreams come true.
