Our Wonderful Week: Best birthday ever! 4/52

What a week!! I’ve never been a big fan of birthdays, particularly milestones which looking back have never been the greatest for me. I was in a terrible place on my 18th and 21st birthdays, and could not have been unhappier turning 30, going through a divorce, feeling hopeless about the future. So although things are very different now turning 40, I still didn’t hold out much hope for the day itself. How wrong I was!!

I’m not sure I have ever felt so loved and so spoilt in my whole life having literally been showered with gifts, cards and messages from all of those I hold dear. Gaz completely surprised me with a diamond pendant he had personally designed and had made by a local jeweller, in the shape of a dove which was just the most thoughtful gift I have ever received. I had lunch with my best friend followed by a meal with Gaz and the kids, and the following day Gaz surprised me with a weekend in Edinburgh!

Edinburgh is particularly special to us as it’s the first place Gaz and I went to as a couple, nine years ago now, and I was so touched that Gaz had put so much thought into it with a real trip down memory lane. We had such a lovely time, just walking and talking and spending time together, something we really don’t do enough of these days.

I have spent the last few months feeling so emotional about turning forty and yet it turns out that it may well be my best year yet. I feel so content with where I am in life, I feel happy and positive and hopeful for the future, and I feel very lucky to have spent the most amazing week with Gaz, the children, and the best friends and family I could hope for.
