3 simple ways to relax at home ** WIN **

I am the first to admit that I struggle when it comes to taking time out for myself and relaxing. As someone who struggles with anxiety and insomnia, relaxing certainly isn’t something which comes naturally. This year I promised myself that I would find a little time each day to try and relax, even just a few minutes before bed, and so far I have managed to maintain that and am already noticing a difference in my sleep and my stress levels.

1. Put down your phone and pick up a book

I’m sure I’m not alone in reaching for my phone at various points through the day, particularly at night when I sit and watch television or get in bed and find myself aimlessly scrolling through social media. Often I find myself still scrolling at 1, 2, 3am, unable to switch off despite feeling utterly exhausted. Over the last month I have been switching off my phone in the evening and picking up a book, something that not only has reminded me just how much I love to read, but has really helped me to destress at the end of the day. I find just a couple of chapters before bed has massively improved my sleeping pattern.

2. Have a warm bath

This sounds so simple but just switching up your shower for a warm bath can feel like such a lovely way to relax (I like to team mine with a good book for double the relaxation!). You can get some gorgeous bath products now to use at home and I know that for me, using a new bath bomb or a luxury bath oil can feel like such a special pampering treat and leaves me feeling lovely and relaxed afterwards.

3. Light a candle

Every night once I’ve had a bath, put on my pyjamas and sit down to read my book, I’ve started lighting a scented candle to set the perfect relaxing ambience in our home. I love the gorgeous range from YRstudio.co.uk and particularly the Hygge and Spa Day scented soy candles which just smell amazing. You can’t beat a good candle and these are some of the best we’ve had!

It also helps when I am having my blood pressure taken as well.
