Review & Giveaway: Personalised adventure book from Watadventure

Throughout my life I have always loved to read and it’s something which I really try to encourage in the children as they grow. I think there is something pretty incredible about being able to immerse yourself into a book and escape to a whole new world or time zone and I love to watch the children’s faces as they turn the page or listen to our stories at bedtime.

Out of all of the children Harry finds reading the hardest and, at just five, that’s understandable. He struggles with concentration, gets frustrated when he can’t read the words, and easily falls into a day dream when he should be paying attention. And so when we were asked by WatAdventure to review one of their personalised books it felt like the ideal opportunity to really get Harry enthusiastic about reading by featuring in the story himself!!

Watadventure offer a range of personalised books but the one that stood out for us was From The Sewer To The Stars: The Rise Of The WatAdventurers, a 66 page adventure book bursting with two eco-adventure stories and lots of activities to inspire kids to save the planet. The first task was to personalise the book which was easily done by adding our choice of name, Harrison (his Sunday name!) and then choosing a WatAdventurer which Harry selected as the closest looking to himself.

Our book arrived in no time and I was instantly impressed by the quality of it. With a sturdy hardback cover with fun and colourful illustrations, I just knew that Harry was going to love it!

I also loved how on the back of the book it states that it has been made with sustainably forested paper. It’s always good to see more brands becoming more eco-friendly and WatAdventure is not only doing just that, but they are working hard to teach our children to do the same in their stories.

The books have a really fun and easy to follow comic book format which reminds me of the kind of books I used to read when I was young. With lots of big illustrations and speech bubble text it instantly captured Harry’s attention, far more than a standard format which he finds quite difficult to follow.

The book appoints Blue Fox to fight corruption, fake news and reckless evil intent on destroying the Earth and, with Harry as the starring role in both stories he not only enjoyed reading it together but he learned so much too!

As well as the stories, there are a number of activities for your child to complete such as keeping a mind diary which I think is just the loveliest idea. Teaching our children about their mental health, even at a young age, is so important and I love that WatAdventure actively encourage children to get in touch with their emotions and recognise how they are feeling on any given day.

Although at five we read several of the parts of the story together, there were many that Harry could read by himself. He loved reading about climate change, how to make his own bedroom recycle centre and even how to give a team talk to shout about the topics he had learned and raise awareness with his peers.

I absolutely love the WatAdventure books and think they are the perfect way to inspire our children to take care of the planet. There are several other titles available on the website, including one which explains Brexit to children (I seriously think I need to read this too!) as well as books to learn more about Australia. We will definitely be adding to our collection!

  1. My 6 year old daughter, I also find it hard to get her to read books as her concentration goes really quickly. Sounds like the perfect book to keep her attention.

    1. This book has been a hit with schools who say it’s a great way to improve literacy in children who aren’t confident readers – the comics, the jokes and the adventure element make it engaging. We have a voucher if you’re interested: LASTMINUTEXMAS which gives you 20% – shop.watadventure.com
