Out and about with Nutmeg

Before the children came along I loved nothing more than shopping. I’d make an entire day of it with friends, have a leisurely lunch, a glass of wine and a wander round the shops, and all of my spare cash went on my wardrobe. These days my life is very different, not only does our spare money go on buying clothes for the children, but I couldn’t think of anything worse than dragging them round the shops! Infact there isn’t enough wine on the planet to make that bearable and, for that reason, when it comes to the children’s wardrobes, we buy the majority of their clothes from the supermarket, killing two birds with one stone with the weekly shop!

With the lovely weather over the last few weeks we have been stocking up on Summer clothing, and with the Nutmeg range now available in every Morrisons store, this was at the top of our list. As a Mum I want three things from my children’s clothing – good quality, good value and good design.

Nutmeg has all of that and more, and this seasons collection didn’t disappoint!

The fact that Nutmeg offer a 200 day no quibble guarantee speaks volumes, so confident are they that their clothing will stand the test of time, and satisfy your needs. And whilst it’s one thing dressing your children to sit around the house, to quietly watch television without a muddy puddle in sight, it’s another to dress them for the park and the playground, to have them run, jump, climb and crawl, and know that their outfit will survive the Summer!

At three, Harry shows very little interest in his outfits, unlike Lewis who at thirteen deliberates for hours, and yet he was over the moon with his “binosaur” t-shirt. The downside was that the roared, on repeat, the entire day, although three other Mums asked me where we had bought it from so at least he got their attention!

One of the fab things about Nutmeg is that some of the girls dresses come in packs of two, which considering Eva and Megan wear the same sized clothes, is perfect! Everyone knows that I’m a huge fan of twinning but I love that the dresses compliment each other, and actually at just £7 for a pack of two, I can afford to buy them a set each!

As much as I love to dress the girls in dresses, they aren’t always practical. Often I will choose something that, although very pretty, is uncomfortable to wear, and those dresses are placed at the back of the wardrobe in favour of a simple cotton design. That’s another thing that I love about Nutmeg, all of their clothing is designed for life. There’s nothing too fussy, nothing too fancy, nothing too itchy or scratchy or a thousand other things that my children find to whinge about each day!

And not only does the Nutmeg range suit the children, but it suits me too. With so much attention to detail, including SP40 materials on selected items, supersoft fabrics, easy to use fastenings and adjustable waistbands, they really have thought of everything!

I love how you could choose ten different items from the Summer range and come up with a whole array of outfits. Every piece can be matched in some way, from bright colours to soft whites, stripes and prints, polka dots and palm trees, there is something for everyone, from babies to 14 years.

And although the children were more than a little bit grubby after a day at the park, and their outfits fully reflected that, I was able to bung them all in the wash, into the dryer, and straight back on without even having to dust off the iron! Now that is a real victory in my book!

Although the weather has taken a turn for the worst, when the sunshine returns we will be more than ready to step into Summer!!

  18. supermarkets are fantastic for kids clothes these days. I’m in envy of my daughter’s wardrobe! Our local Morrisons has just had a very small clothing section put in (half an aisle), and I have been ogling a lot of the beautiful summer dresses and shorts. I didn’t spot these dresses in there so will have to pop back to see if they have them in stock x
