As a family of six meal times are often our only chance to all sit down together and talk about our day and because of that, we always try to make our meal times a proper occasion. From Harry our fussiest eater and Lewis our biggest eater, we try and eat a real range of meals together. I am always up for trying new recipes and new ingredients and so when Life of Spice sent us some of their gourmet spice blends I couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

Life of Spice rubs are used to give flavour to meat or vegetables prior to cooking. You simply rub them directly on the meat, or sprinkle on the vegetables, and leave to rest for 30 minutes before cooking, barbecuing, grilling or roasting.

All of the Life of Spice rubs are produced in the UK and made using the finest ingredients. They contain no artificial ingredients, are dairy free and, perfect for me, gluten free!

There are two gift collections available on line, both coming in stylish gift boxes and containing aluminium tins which protect their products from direct sunlight keeping the herbs and spices fresh.

The Italian Collection is my personal favourite and consists of three Italian inspired Rubs, Salts and Herbs –

Pepper Smurf: A classic Italian peppered steak rub which really brings our the flavour of the meat!

The Italian Job: sea salt infused with basil, thyme and citrus which we enjoyed on Mediterranean style roasted vegetables.

Italian Herbs: a classic combination of Italian herbs to add an authentic taste to pizza and Italian dishes.

The Italian Collection retails at £13.95 and is a really great trio especially for those who love Italian cuisine. We enjoyed a holiday to Italy earlier this year and these rubs have really brought back some great memories!

The American Rub Collection is Gaz’s favourite with five American inspired rubs which we have been using on ribs, steaks, burgers and slow cooked pulled meats. The set consists of –

With all five rubs retailing at £18.95 I think they are a real bargain compared to buying each spice individually and combining to make your own. I also love how the tins stack so easily in the cupboard and take up far less room than individual spice jars.

Life of Spice also have some amazing recipe cards with ways to use their rubs to create some amazing dishes. So far the southern fried chicken has gone down a treat with the kids and we have been enjoying authentic Mexican style fajitas too!

The rubs are also great for those who are vegetarian and the Greek Salad recipe is delicious! I’m not keen on vegetables full stop but when I’ve sprinkled on one of the rubs they make such a big difference, so much so that the kids have even tucked in!
