** WIN ** Creating a learning space for the children with Great Little Trading Co

I don’t know about you but when the schools broke up last week and we were told we would have to home school our children for the foreseeable future, I went into a blind panic! As much as my children love school, when it comes to learning at home they all lack concentration, have the attention span of a goldfish, and the thought of having to sit down and teach them, whilst juggling a full time job and all of my other commitments, felt over whelming to say the least!! Our only saving grace was that the previous week we had been sent a gorgeous new desk and accessories from Great Little Trading Co (GLTC) and it couldn’t have come at a better time!

Great Little Trading Co is an award-winning British business which designs and produces the most incredible furniture, toys and storage ideas for families. They are specialists in what they do meaning they know that family life isn’t always easy, and children aren’t always perfect, so they use innovative designs to make sure their products appeal to both adults and children whilst being safe, long lasting and genuinely useful.

GLTC have the most amazing range of desks to suit all spaces and requirements. We chose the Whittington desk and, with fast assembly and a quick re-jig in the playroom, were able to create a calm and peaceful learning space for the children in no time at all!

Our main requirement for a desk was to provide a usable space for the children to work whilst having storage areas to keep everything in order. I love that the desk area itself is lovely and big, enough to work side by side should the children wish, whilst also having two smaller shelves for stationery supplies and a larger top shelf to store their current selection of reading books too.

The children particularly love the built in notice board which I think is a great addition to the desk and a lovely way for them to display their drawings or leave little notes for me to discover. These little touches make a real difference to the children and as they grow the notice board will be a great way for us to display important notices from school or memos to remind each other of clubs and groups! There is always so much to remember!

Underneath is a large drawer which actually goes right the way back the depth of the desk itself making it a really usable and handy space. I love that GLTC really make sure that their furniture is practical as well as looking great, I think sometimes it can be difficult to find both! At the end of the day we are able to pack away the children’s note books and colouring pads into the drawer and know it is safely away until the following day which.

Alongside the desk we were sent some amazing accessories which are just the loveliest way to really personalise your desk area and keep everything in one place. The Confetti Spot Desk Tidy has five handy compartments to store stationery or larger papers at the back and the children love the colourful confetti spot design. I don’t know about your children but mine are notorious for losing everything they pick up and set down and so to have this compartmentalised organiser makes life a lot easier!

Every desk should have a calendar and this gorgeous wooden Perpetual Calendar is the perfect addition to our learning space. Not only does it look great, made from beautifully smooth wood and painted in rainbow colours, but it’s a great way to teach children days of the week, months, numbers and colours, as well as learning more about the weather! Each morning the children rush downstairs to take it in turns to find the right date and day and decide on the weather. Let’s hope the sunshine keeps making an appearance!

Our final accessory is the Confetti Spot Carry Caddy made from thick, painted MDF with three storage sections and a lovely chalkboard label. It’s a fantastic way to store craft supplies, papers and paints to use either at the desk area or to carry onto the table for shared activities or into the garden for outdoor crafting. GLTC have some gorgeous designs but the confetti spots were definitely the children’s favourites when it came to choosing!

I love that the combination of the desk and accessories has instantly provided us with an organised, fun, practical and gorgeous learning space for the children. It’s been a real godsend this week and a calming area for them when everything else around them seems to be changing. I love how eager they are to sit down and get some work done or, later, play teachers together and recreate their daily school routine through imaginative play.

We absolutely love the GLTC range and when it comes to innovative designs and quality products, we would definitely recommend them. I know that the children’s new desk area will grow with them over the years and from colouring books to course work, it’s going to be a wonderful addition to our home.
