Review: Elli Smiles Doll

Every year there’s that one toy, completely new and unique to the market, which is set to be a complete sell-out at Christmas and this year I predict it is this, Elli Smiles. On the surface she looks like many other dolls my girls have had over the years, she is actually completely unique and unlike anything we have ever seen before!! Megan is completely obsessed with her dolls and so I knew  the minute she saw this it would go straight on her Christmas list, which is where Eva came in useful to test it out before we sent it to the North Pole – shhhh!!

Elli Smiles  comes with a potty, a nappy, a bottle, a dummy and a sunshine necklace which connects her to her parent. She also comes in a gorgeous pink outfit and hat and has a lovely soft body so she is realistic to hold and love. At 43cm long (pretty much what Megan was at birth) she is a great size and although she requires 3 x AA batteries which aren’t included, the sunshine necklace comes with a battery so you’re good to go. I live in constant fear of the children opening their presents on Christmas morning and us not having the right batteries so I always stock up before hand just incase!

The idea of the sunshine necklace is genius meaning that whoever wears the necklace will be identified as Elli’s parent and when you turn her on her little face physically moves into a smile and she babbles away, says “Mama” and gurgles just like a real baby. I just know that Megan is going to fall in love with her the moment she hears her say “Mama”.

Eva loved that you can feed Elli her bottle, filling it with water and placing it in her mouth whilst squeezing gently. Both of my girls love playing at being Mummy’s and the more realistic their dolls the better! Although we have had dolls who drink water before I have always found I quite messy and water has ended up getting everywhere! With Elli Smiles it seemed so straight forward!


Eva also loved that once you have fed Elli you can burp her in the same way you would do a real baby and she actually burps! The first time she did it really took us by surprise and Eva was in fits of giggles! Elli Smiles also loves her dummy and when you place it in her mouth she makes little sucking noises and if you rock her gently she even falls asleep. As her eyes close she makes adorable little sleeping noises which I know Megan will love the most. She loves nothing more than snuggling up to her dolls, often sleeping with them beside her in her bed.

  Another amazing feature is that Elli Smiles will actually do a wee on the potty when you press the heart button on her tummy. It was a little tricky to work it out at first but once we had practiced a few times it was pretty straight forward. The trick is making sure that Elli has had enough water to drink and then pressing on her tummy to release the water. As Eva placed her on the potty she was so excited to see her doing a wee and it was adorable that just like a real Mummy she told her. “Good girl Elli!!”.

You can also use the nappy for Elli to either wear just to play pretend or to wee into. Elli Smiles comes with just one nappy but I will definitely be buying some more alongside these. With previous dolls we did find that if you pop them on the radiator they dry really quickly so you can use the nappies more than once which just gets that little bit more play out of them.

Elli Smiles has a RRP of £79.99 which is similarly priced to other dolls of this nature. At the moment she is on offer here at The Entertainer for just £34.99 which is an amazing price! If you’re thinking of buying one I would definitely say to snap her up while she’s at this bargain price!

Eva absolutely loves Elli Smiles (so much so I started to worry she might not want to give her back!) but I also know that Megan will love her even more. I am so excited to see her face when she opens her on Christmas morning and when she sees her smile for the very first time I think she might actually burst!!

  29. I would so love to win this for my niece. I have never seen a doll like this and it just makes it more appealing – My niece absolutely adores her dollies especially the functional ones. I know this would definitely be the best Christmas gift ever and I just know she would be over the moon with a Elli Smiles Doll.
