Lightseekers review & giveaway

Recently we were asked to review Lightseekers, and I’ll be honest with you, having never heard of them before I didn’t have a clue what they were! On reading further I saw that they are hotly tipped as the must have toy on every child’s wish list for Christmas 2017, and a highly anticipated toy line from Playseekers and TOMY.

So what are Lightseekers?

Lightseekers is far more than just a game: it’s the fusion of fantasy and reality powered by a proprietary technology platform that integrates video games, smart action figures with artificial intelligence. The range includes, smart figures, accessories, augmented trading cards and more – all compatible with the Lightseekers app.

In simple terms it’s basically a free game which you can download and then buy action figures and cards to make it even more fun!

What do you get?

We were sent the Lightseekers Mari Starter Pack to review. Harnessing the elements of Lightning, Water, and Air, the fun–loving but fierce Mari always bring the storm wherever they go.

The pack consists of –

  • Mari action figure
  • The Fusioncore – instantly connects your smart action figure to the Lightseekers game, delvering real-time two way interaction between your hero and the game.
  • Aquadart Crab – Drench you enemies from afar! In-game stats and abilities are stored within, making your weapon uniquely yours.
  • 5 augmented reality trading cards – exclusive Hero and Item cards and 3 Super Powerful Combo cards. Play in the Trading Card Game and Scan for In-Game Rewards and Abilties.
  • Unique Tribute Card – scan and share with friends to increase its power.

How to play

Mari is powered by his FusionCore, an Octagon shaped rechargeable pack which clips onto the back of the figure. It charges by a simple USB cable, included, which I love as it means we don’t need to spend a fortune on batteries!

One the figure is charged it’s as simple as downloading the Lightseekers app……

Connecting the figure via blue tooth…..

And you’re good to go!

The kids loved that Mari lights up and also speaks throughout the game, and you can move Mari in the game by moving the figure itself – amazing!

There are countless missions and games to play, all by touch screen or moving the Mari figure. You can also buy a variety of add-ons such as starter packs, extra weapons and accessories and even a second figure, Jax.

The verdict

For my youngest three, aged three, four and five, this was a little too advanced. They actually loved the Mari figure but they were happier playing with it in the Barbie house or battling with Paw Patrol pups. Meanwhile Lewis, at thirteen, was too old for the game and found the figure a little childish. I think this would be best suited to maybe 7-12 year olds, and for that age range it really is amazing!!

I can totally understand why Lightseekers are hailed as this years hottest toy, the way that technology has advances is mind boggling, and I know in just a couple of years time my children will be wanting to collect every last bit of this range!
