Rise & Shine with Surcare * Win a Surcare bundle *

As many of you who have followed my blog for a while will know, I struggle when it comes to sleep. I have lived with insomnia for as far back as I can remember and so getting a good nights sleep is something I have to really work hard at! I find that routine is everything when it comes to managing not only insomnia but the kids, a career, managing a home and the many, many jobs that come with it. So I’ve loved taking part in the “Rise and Shine with Surcare” campaign to share my top tips for making my morning routine run that little bit easier.

For those who aren’t familiar with the brand,  It is also one of very few laundry products which have been awarded the Allergy UK Seal of Approval across the entire range, a real must in our house with Harry’s eczema. You can find out more about Surcare here.

Top tips for a productive morning routine

1. Wake up at the same time each day

I find that setting my alarm for the same time each day makes a big difference in how productive I am each day. Waking at the same time allows my body to get into it’s own rhythm and I find I sleep better as a result.

2. Clean the kitchen when the kids are in school

I used to always wash up the minute breakfast was done and quickly tidy round the kitchen while they got ready for school. I soon realised that it didn’t matter if the pots were left until after the school run and actually I find it works far better to get the kids ready myself, take them to school and then return home to wash up and clean round.

3. Make a To Do List

The first thing I do each day is make a to do list, not just for the big jobs I have for work but for the smaller jobs I need to tackle around the house. Being able to tick off the chores as well as meet my deadlines gives me a real visual of how much I have achieved and I find I work more efficiently to try and plough through each entry.

4. Put the laundry in first thing in the morning

Prioritising the laundry as my first task of the day means I get my most tedious chore out of the way first and also gives me time to dry the washing and put it away well before the kids get home. I find if I leave it later in the day it can often sit in the washing machine for hours and ends up hanging on the radiators or piled in a heap on the stairs!

5. Take care of yourself!

The key to any good morning routine is always to take good care of yourself too! For me I do that in a number of ways, not just by making sure I eat breakfast and find time to sit down for a moments rest, but by using Surcare products in our daily lives to protect my skin against my many allergies. With Harry having eczema on top, it’s so important we make the right choices and I love how Surcare is perfect for those with skin sensitivities and allergies.

I work in the mornings so I follow my teen son into the bathroom which means a lot of my pre-work routine is putting things away after him – hanging the bathmat so it dries, putting the toothpaste back in its cup, etc. Then I feed and check in on the cat and dog, open all the curtains and blinds so the plants get sunlight (our front room is a sun trap in the morning). My real housework routine starts at 1pm when I’m back from work… it never ends!!

  14. Always get up 5 mins earlier than you think you need, also always try to prepare the night before

  15. Get straight up when you wake up, even if it is to make a coffee rather than going back to sleep. I have also started waking up a little earlier to have a shower in the morning, so I have more time to do dinner, packed lunch and homework for my daughter.

  16. Do things the night before to make your morning easier and leave time to have a cup of tea before you start racing round

  28. Preparation the night before, like making packed lunches and not arranging more than you know you can fit in or you feel like you’ve failed

  29. Key to success is having a routine, working backwards from what time you need to be out of the house and timing things so you know when to leave the house, and making sure everything is done! My kids have grown up with this and I can honestly say that its very rare for us to be late out the door because of our routine 🙂

  30. I like the first half hour in the morning to myself, so I get up a bit earlier have my coffee and prepare myself for the busy day.

  31. Get up early and get some jobs done before the children wake up so then you can just concentrate on them and their needs but also make a point of some self care for you at some point during the morning, even if it’s just a cup of tea and a few pages of a book.

  36. Coffee to start with. I’m an early bird and I like to get up an hour before everyone else so I can get ready in peace and then I can start my morning routine at a leisurely pace.

  37. Tea, first then I pop my make up on and get dressed before I wake up the kids . I get them a breakfast, I always make sure clothes shoes and packed lunches are done the night before. I check emails and things like eBay. then do school run and then off to work. ( I lost my job in lockdown but still try and stick to the same routine to give kids stability). I keep list and set reminders on my phone for anything that needs doing to keep things calm.

  38. Get laundry started first so that it can be outside drying while you are busy with the rest – or in the dryer x

  39. Everyone needs to have their own jobs and responsibilities to make sure everything goes smoothly

  40. At least two mugs of tea before getting anything else done and prepare as much as you can the night before by having clothes, lunches etc ready to go

  43. I always plan out the night before and try to stick to plan but don’t stress out if the unexpected happens

  44. For me personally, thinking ahead is key. Eg. I load the washing machine the night before so it’s ready to switch on first thing. I also ‘reward’ myself with eg. a coffee and a sit down after certain jobs are done. The worst thing I can do is sit down on returning from the school run.

  45. I don’t really have any tips as I sleep very badly and so often don’t get up till mid-morning, having not got to sleep until 4 or 5 am!

  46. don’t hit the snooze button on the alarm! I use the timer on my washing machine so that a washload is done ready for the morning.
