An over night stay at The Best Western Plus Angel Hotel
Last month, after spending a luxurious night at Tylney Hall, we set off on the next step of our journey across to The Best Western Plus Angel Hotel. . The Angel is a delightful 17th century coaching inn set in the market town of Chippenham, Wiltshire, overlooking the marketplace, giving the perfect location to explore in the area.
Dating back to 1751, the hotel has been refurbished to offer modern, contemporary style bedrooms and offers a hotel leisure club, restaurant and walled courtyard garden. And we couldn’t wait to check it out!
With a free car park to the back of the hotel, we were able to park up, check in and were directed to our rooms. With there being six of us we were given two interconnecting bedrooms, each sleeping three, with two bathrooms, making it perfect for a larger family.
The bedrooms were both spacious, modern and spotlessly clean, and The Angel had thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible with some really thoughtful touches for the children. For us grown ups it was great to be greeted with a bottle of red wine to enjoy later that evening…
And for the children there were activity packs and flannels, plus soft drinks which we were very grateful for due to the warm weather that weekend! I really loved that the flannels/activity packs were relevant to the shows/films my children are into right now, they really were so excited about them.
In the bathroom was a selection of toiletries including bubble bath for the children which again was such a lovely gesture!
After unpacking our things there was only one place the children wanted to go – the pool! Heated, and indoor, the pool is perfect for small children like ours. The water was the perfect temperature and with the sun beaming through the windows it was lovely and warm to lie back on one of the loungers and simply relax…..well as much as is possible with four children!
My only qualm about the leisure facilities was that the changing rooms could have been a little more spacious. With just one shower and two small cubicles, I would have liked to see a family changing room, particularly for those like me with a larger family. Luckily our room was very close to the pool so we were able to wrap the children up in towels and carry them back to have a shower in the room and get dressed for dinner.
We had already made a reservation in The Brasserie that evening and on arrival we realised that we were the only diners in there at that time. I couldn’t help but feel a huge sigh of relief that we could simply relax, enjoy our food and not have to worry too much about disturbing anyone else’s meal!
The menu had a great selection of food and I have to say, it was all very “us” after the very formal dinner the previous night. After placing our order the waitress brought over a selection of colouring sheets and crayons to entertain the children while we waited for our food.
For starter the children all had garlic bread, which is always a hit, and I had soup whilst Gaz had fishcakes. I love that they have a gluten free menu available and I didn’t have to miss out on the bread roll as happens way too many times when we eat out!
For our main course Lewis and I both went for braised blade of beef which was so delicious and perfectly cooked!
Gaz went for something a little more adventurous with a Moroccan lamb tagine which looked equally appetising.
The children all ordered from the children’s menu and chose chicken goujons and chips. I was pleased to see they were made from actual chicken fillets rather than processed meat, and the fries were so good I *may* have had to help them out with a few…
Despite being fit to burst we couldn’t resist ordering desserts – ice cream for the kids and I, and chocolate fudge cake for Lewis.
After we had finished our meal we didn’t feel at all pushed to leave the table and were able to just sit back, relax, and have a chat with the waitress about the local area. I didn’t catch the waitresses name but she couldn’t have been any more friendly and didn’t seem at all phased by Megan and Harry pulling silly faces at her the whole time!
Back in our room, after a busy two days it wasn’t long before the children were fast asleep and Gaz and I decided to join them. The beds were so comfy that I really didn’t want to get up the following morning when our alarm sounded for breakfast!
The early start was well worth it when we made it down to discover a huge range of breakfast items including a continental buffet, a full English, and a huge array of breads, pancakes and pastries.
We had such a lovely stay at The Angel Hotel and, with children under 12 staying for free with two full paying adults (terms and conditions apply), I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable family hotel, close to all amenities, and in the perfect location to explore Longleat Safari Park and the surrounding area.

This looks a fab hotel – I love the little extras for the kids. We’re about half an hour from Chippenham so I’ll definitely be recommending it to friends and family who come to visit the area 🙂

That looks like a lovely place to stay! I love it when hotels do little, thoughtful things to make the stay just a bit more special for the kids (and for the adults!), it always makes my kids so happy (love the bubble bath for them!) The food looks absolutely amazing as well, especially that chocolate fudge cake!

What an incredible hotel, whenever I visit the Best Westin hotels there are always a hit or miss but this one seems really incredible.
You have been staying at some great places lately and this one looks gorgeous. Shame about the changing room size but at least you didn’t have far to go to the room. The dishes you had for dinner look absolutely delicious, mouth watering

We booked to stay here for our anniversary, which I mentioned to the hotel and when we arrived there was a complimentary bottle of bubbly waiting for us which was a lovely touch. The staff were lovely! They even upgraded us to the four-poster bedroom as the hotel was quiet. We never realised there was a pool but as it’s right in the centre of town quickly nipped out to buy a costume, etc and took a dip before enjoying a lovely evening meal. As we’re quite local, we pop in for food even now and again. Now I’ve seen how well they treat the kids, we might take my daughter with us next time x

What a great hotel it looks really lovely there. I especially love the fact they made a point of making sure the children had some fun goodies in the welcome pack. A lot of places overlook that when families visit.

I love the fact they have thought about the flannels and the matey bubble bath (I use to have that as a child and didn’t realise you could still get it!). The food looks brilliant too, sounds like the perfect stay x
