Review & Giveaway: Sylvanian Families Delicious Restaurant & Maple Cat Family
Growing up I always longed for Sylvanian Families toys and yet, for one reason or another, I never had any for myself. I remember my best friend Rachael had the entire collection and we would play for hours lay on the floor in her playroom, creating our own little world of imagination and, even now, those are some of my favourite childhood memories without a doubt.
When the girls reached 3 and 4, and an age where they took way more interest in television adverts, Christmas catalogues and store displays, it was lovely to see them asking for Sylvanian Families toys, to agonise over which particular family to ask for or which building from the Town series to add to their collection. For that reason, when we were asked to review the Sylvanian Families Town Series Delicious Restaurant alongside the Maple Cat Family, the girls were so excited, especially having had their eye on it for the last few months!
The Delicious Restaurant is pretty special – a two storey building with a spiral staircase, kitchen, dining area, table and chairs, chefs outfit, tableware and much more. From the front of the building it looks very grand, and super inviting, and from the other side there are so many lovely little details just waiting to be discovered.
Although the Delicious Restaurant doesn’t come with any Sylvanian Families figures, it does come with a chefs outfit which is absolutely adorable and fit the girls’ existing figure perfectly. There are lots of small parts to the restaurant and yet everything has a place and part of the fun, for my girls especially, is setting it all up ready to play.
At the front of the restaurant is a very life like menu board with the days specials, which can be placed at the front or the back of the restaurant depending on where you place it.
In the kitchen there is a large cooking area complete with pans and cooking utensils and even a wall mounted frame to hang then on when not in use.
There are tiny little wine glasses and a carafe, along with a cake stand and a three tiered decorated cake! You even have a little wooden trolley laden with food to serve the customers, although the girls weren’t quite as keen on the choice of food – “Green vegetables! YUCK!” said Megan.
And with a table and two chairs, which can be positioned wherever you like, there is plenty of room for the Sylvanian Families figures to enjoy a leisurely meal. I love that the set even comes with tiny knifes, forks and spoons!
With so many tiny parts, it does take a little patience, and a lot of care, not to knock over the plates and glasses every time you knock the restaurant, and yet at six years old, and the most careful of my children, Eva absolutely loved the intricate details and took great care to make sure the Maple Cat family were served with impeccable service!
As a parent, my favourite thing about Sylvanian Families is that there are no gimmicks, no batteries, no annoying noises or flashing lights, it’s just good old fashioned imaginative play, creating an innocent world of make believe, and there really is nothing nicer than seeing the children play in that way.
I also love that although the Delicious Restaurant is indeed intended as a restaurant, play isn’t restricted there. Watching Eva play, she created a whole range of scenarios, all of which were equally imaginative, and all holding her attention for hours at a time.
Recommended for children age 3 and over, I think the great thing about Sylvanian Families is that they can really grow with your child. The option to add to your collection to create an entire town is amazing and, although slightly more expensive than other toys with a RRP of £49.99, the quality and the longevity of such a toy, really does speak volumes.
The Delicious Restaurant was most definitely a huge hit with myself and the children and we would recommend it to any Sylvanian Families fans or those looking to start their own collection. I have to admit, I am loving that I can relive my own childhood through my girls!

The cat family are adorable, My daughter Heidi has a collection of Sylvanians but doesn’t have the cats which is strange as cats are her favourite animals, I love the colour of them. very sweet.

Its so adorable! I used to absolutely love sylvanian families when I was younger and had so many of them, I had a huge mansion and a few other buildings with sooo many figures. My mum and dad gave them to the charity shop when I lost interest! I wish I’d have kept them for my daughter cause she loves them too!

I think this would be great for my 8 year old who has a tremendous imagination. Although suitable for my almost 4 year old she is a lot more heavy handed and I think would get frustrated quickly.

I played a lot with sylvannian families when I was a little girl – I used to love them and played for hours with cousins etc. My mum never wanted to just buy me junk I’d get bored of and she had excellent taste as they lasted me for years. I think this looks adorable and the theme of the toy let’s children role play a real life situation which means developing complex social skills which is awesome – it’s also super cute! My daughter would love it!

As a child I really wanted sylvanian families my son wanted them but it wasn’t till my little girl asked that last Christmas and her birthday we gained a huge collection.
