Review: Barbie Deluxe Styling Head

Those of you who were born in the eighties will completely get where I’m coming from when I say the worlds, “Girls World”. Girl’s World was a toy where you could play at being a hair dresser and make up artist, and I think it was up there with Mr Frostie as the most longed for item on Christmas morning. Now I’m not saying that I was deprived (ahem) but not only did I miss out on Mr Frostie, I never got a Girl’s World either, and even at thirty seven I have never quite got over that trauma.

So when we were offered a Barbie Deluxe Styling Head I knew that not only would the children love it, but I would too!

The styling head comes with a whole host of accessories to create different looks, style her hair and do make her make up. It includes – a colour mixing bowl, mixing brush and hair foils, a hair brush, extension, bands and clips, nail wheels and stickers, a sponge tip applicator and a hair colour pen.

One of the fab things about Barbie’s hair is that with just a simple flip of the parting she can go from having blonde hair…

…..to pink!!

Barbie also has hands which can be moved outwards for manicures and nail art, with colour changing nails too!

The girls couldn’t wait to give Barbie a makeover and started with her hair. Using one of the included clips and the pink hair pen, you can colour in a choice of shapes to create pink patterns in Barbie’s hair. I’ll be honest, the shapes don’t come out as expected, ours looked a bit like pink splodges, but with a bit or practice I’m sure it is possible!

Barbie also has colour change lipstick, simply by using ice cold water to remove the lipstick, or hot water to add the lipstick. This was definitely Megan’s favourite part!

Barbie’s nails also colour change in the same way, going from pale pink to dark pink when hot water is applied.

With stick on nail stickers there is so much to do and my favourite thing about this toy is that both of the girls can play with it at the same time with minimum arguing!

And actually, with all of the different hair accessories too, all three of the children were able to play with it – now that really is a success in my eyes!

I just know that this is a toy the children will play with for a long time to come, and I have to confess that when the children went to bed, I couldn’t resist having a little play myself!

We are really pleased with the Barbie Deluxe Styling head and would recommend it to all budding stylists!

RRP £39.99 available to buy from Very along with the Barbie Flip and Reveal Styling head from the same range.

  2. I don’t have kids yet but I have a niece who is obsessed with dolls like almost every other girl. This looks like such a great doll with all those features to keep the little ones busy, hence I’m thinking I’ll get this for my niece while we visit her in December in the UK. Thanks for sharing this!

  3. I loved my Girls World too – styling heads have certainly come a long way since we were young. This has been a big hit in my house too

  6. Oh wow, it’s come a long way since I had one when I was little. I was devastated when my little sister coloured her face in biro and totally ruined her. I might be 35 but I think I’d quite like one of these again! 🙂

  7. Hooray for you, reliving your childhood! Actually, I never had a Girls World or a Mr Frosty, in fact I never even had a Barbie! Did I even have a childhood at all?? I like this toy though, it’s not creepy like the old ones were, and I love that you can do her nails as well. Am I too old in my 40’s to get one??

  8. I used to love the Barbie styling heads when I was younger. I had one and while I was never good at styling hair I still loved it. The deluxe styling head looks awesome x

  9. I didn’t have either of those things either when I was a kid, but I had the great wide forests outdoors, lol! Looks like loads of fun for the little ones though!

  10. This is something my girls would LOVE!! They had a Frozen styling head, and even though they loved Elsa then it was easily forgotten as all they could do is brush and plait and the basics. They are into nails and love the idea of changing your hair colour, etc. so they would go crazy for this!

  11. I remember having so many Barbies as a kid. I always styled their hair and one time, I had to cut one of them without thinking that it will never actually grow. LOL!

  12. Ha ha I love that you had a play yourself, I would have probably done the same! Ilove how the hands come out so you can paint the nail, it looks really cleverly put together. My daughter would love this….definitely a contender for Christmas, thank you!

  13. Now this is a proper little girls toy. Seeing your son join in was cute. It even made me chuckle a bit. Great review.

  14. Here come all the memories again. I love trying different hairstyles and just playing around. Then I got over it and moved on to Legos, LOL. My niece would love to have this.

  15. I remember having something very similar to this growing up and I loved it! I like how they include all the extras now like the highlights and the nail art. I know one of my nanny family children would love this, including the little boy. My only question is, the hair colour pen, can children colour their own hair and if so does it just wash out with water?

  16. Oh this looks so much better than the Girls World! You can do so much with the hair, face and nails. I was never allowed a Mr Frosty and I’m still quite bitter about that haha.
