Making Mothers Day Cards with Gel-a-Peel

There are certain activities that my girls always go crazy for, and Gel-a-Peel is one of them. We have enjoyed trying out their kits over the last few months, making our own jewellery, key rings, and getting creative with various designs. When we were asked to try out the new Gel-a-Peel Pearly Pastels kit to create a Mothers Day card, it goes without saying that the girls jumped at the chance!

The pastels kit contains everything that we have come to expect from Gel-a-Peel; three pastel gel tubes, sixteen design templates and five designer tips. On top of that we were very excited to discover the new gel tray which you simply fill with the gel, leave to set and remove to make pearly pastel gems!

Previously Megan has struggled a little with Gel-a-Peel. At three she was unable to apply the right amount of pressure to the tubes for a steady flow of gel, and she always ended up a little frustrated and very messy! But using the gel tray she was able to fill the moulds quite easily and it was lovely to see her join in. And for Eva, who has become a seasoned pro with Gel-a-Peel, she was over the moon with the new accessory and got stuck right in!

Once the girls had filled the moulds we left them to set for half an hour, which when you are three and five must feel like an eternity!

It was so easy to remove the shapes from the mould with the tool included, and the girls were so excited to have made so many gorgeous pastel coloured gems!

Using a small amount of gel on each shape, we were able to stick them to the card to create a design for our Mothers Day cards. I helped the girls by designing a card for them to copy which, although far from a masterpiece, made for a really pretty card.

I was so impressed with how well the girls copied my design, easily creating a gorgeous hand made Mothers Day card that beats any you can buy in the shop!

It was so much fun to use Gel-a-peel in this way and it is definitely something we will do more of in the future. And at the end of the month on Mothers Day, I will look forward to opening my card off Eva, even if Megan told me that she won’t be giving me her card because, actually, she loves it so much she wants to keep it for herself!!

Gel-a-peel is aimed at children aged 8+.
