I will never forget the look of happiness on Eva’s face when she received her very first Hatchimal, two years ago now. I had scoured the whole of the country for it, set up stock alerts on my phone, and made midnight dashes to the supermarket, along with thousands of other parents who didn’t want to disappoint their children on Christmas morning. I have never seen her quite as excited as she was when that first egg started to hatch and this week, having completely fallen in love with Hatchimals over the years, I couldn’t wait to see her little face when she received her very first Hatchimals Hatchibabies!!
This October the Hatchimals family is growing with the brand new HatchiBabies. With two new species – Ponette and Cheetree – the fun is in finding out whether you have hatched a boy or a girl!
As soon as we opened the egg the children were amazed that it was so much bigger than the previous Hatchimals eggs we have had. The eggs all look the same on the outside so there is no way of knowing whether you have a boy or girl until they hatch, although Harry was pretty certain it would be a boy!
To start the hatching process you have to hug, tap, snuggle and pat your HatchiBaby’s egg and as you do, they will respond with cute sounds. The more you play with them the more excited they become, and if you place the egg down it starts to move on its own!!
When you see the rainbow eyes shine through the shell, its time for the HatchiBaby to hatch! This is when you have to keep rubbing the egg until the cracks start to appear.
As the egg bursts open you simply peel back the shell to discover who is inside, and this is the part which my children LOVE. “It’s a girl!” Eva shouted. “No way, it’s a boy!” Harry insisted.
Eva was over the moon to discover we had Ponette, a gorgeous fluffy specials with big colour changing eyes and beaks that really move!!
Even more exciting is that once the HatchiBaby has hatched you are then left with three secret compartments containing the HatchiBaby’s accessories, and in the centre a secret message to reveal whether you have hatched a Hatchiboy or Hatchigirl!
Harry was so happy to discover we had a Hatchiboy, “Boys are the best!” he told Eva who thankfully was so excited about opening the accessories that she son got over her disappointment over not getting a girl.
When you peel back the hidden accessories there are four in each egg, and all species may come with different accessories to keep the surprises coming.
Ponette come with a rattle, a hairbrush, a bottle and a cuddle buddy, and the actual egg turns into a highchair!
The children loved feeding Ponette with the bottle and afterwards, you can even burp him like a real baby. I think the accessories are such a great addition and the HatchiBabies respond to each one differently, it really adds to the fun factor.
Harry particularly loved to brush Ponette’s hair, change his nappy, and the cute little noises he made as he did. “He likes me!” he told me.
You can even teach your HatchiBaby to take using “Yak Bak” where you hold both feet and they learn to repeat. The more you play, the more responses you can unlock.
Each HatchiBaby species has their own secret trick which you can discover by holding the baby of the Baby’s head and touching their forehead sensor twice at the same time. I won’t give away what our trick was but it was a big hit with the children!
Priced at £59.99 and available to buy NOW from Smyths, the Entertainer, Argos, Amazon and all good retailers, I imagine HatchiBabies are going to be a best seller this Christmas. Hatchimals have taken the same trusted formula and added in so many more ways to play, fun accessories and unique touches. And it’s safe to say that Ponette has been a huge hit with the children!!
