Celebrating the Angry Birds’ 10th Anniversary

We are big fans of Angry Birds in our house and so when we were sent our very own Angry Birds piñata to celebrate the 10th anniversary, the children obviously couldn’t wait to start whacking it open!

Usually we would do something like this outdoors, in the garden, with piñata hung up high for them to whack it ’til their hearts content and yet with the weather so cold and miserable it fell to me to volunteer to hold it and cross my fingers and toes that the kids were a better aim than I give them credit for!

I think it’s safe to say that whacking a giant Angry Birds piñata was the highlight of the children’s week, if not month, and with every hit they were literally jumping with excitement about what could be inside!

By the time they’d each given it their best shot, they finally manage to make a hole in the piñata and get a glimpse as to what was inside. “Is it sweeties?” asked Harry, “It’s way better than that!!” Megan told him.

Thanks to Megan and her brutish force she gave it one final whack, knocking the piñata straight from my hand, and split it open to reveal our Angry Birds goodies inside.

Inside we found two Angry Birds Splat Balls, Balloon balls, pyjamas, a soft toy, Top Trumps, Pig Head game, Game Pack, personalised wall decals and the The Angry Birds 2 Movie DVD. I don’t think I have ever seen the children scramble out of their clothes and into their pyjamas so quickly before!

Available in sizes 6-12 years years, the Angry Bird’s pyjamas have all of the children’s favourite Angry Birds characters on the front in gorgeous bright colours. The children were so pleased with them and I love just how cosy and soft the fabric is.

They were excited to discover Balloon Balls and Splat Balls, stretchy Angry Birds which can fly across the room and splat on any surface. Priced at £3.99 and available from Toymaster and B&M, these are the perfect stocking fillers this Christmas!

Obsessed with soft toys, Eva instantly claimed the Angry Birds soft toy for herself and was delighted to get Red, her favourite character from the movies. Currently priced at just £4.99 from Smyths, you can get Red, Bomb. Chuck and Leonard and of course, Eva is now desperate to collect them all.

The Angry Birds Game Pack is such a fun set consisting of Red, Bomb, Chuck, Blue Bird and King Leonard. I love that all Angry Birds toys have an AR (augmented reality) code on the packaging that allows you to unlock more games via a smartphone or tablet. We already use the app on my phone and so the children couldn’t wait to scan it and discover new fun ways to play.

As for the figures, you can press the bottom of each character to see them go from happy to angry, something the children thought was hilariously funny!

Of course we also received The Angry Birds 2 Movie, a film we enjoyed at the cinema this year and couldn’t wait to watch again, and again!! Harry in particularly loves this movie and laughs the whole way through. That’s our weekend plans covered right there!

We also received the Angry Birds Top Trumps which were a huge hit with the girls. We love Top Trumps, I can remember playing them as a child myself, and I love that no only are they entertaining but really educational too! They are great for us as a family who loves to travel, the plastic cases are great for throwing in a rucksack on the aeroplane or during long car journeys!

The girls get very competitive which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and take our Top Trumps battles very seriously! I love that it helps them with their reading, problem solving skills and numeracy!

Our absolute favourite item from the piñata was the Angry Birds Pig Head Game which is just hilarious!! Once you’ve strapped on the green Pig Head hat, the other players are it in turns to throw sticky Red, Chuck and Bomb while you catch them on the velcro strips.

Priced at £12 from Hawkins, I can see this being a firm favourite at Christmas! I know we always try and choose a silly game to enjoy together, and one the children can rope their Grandad into playing after Christmas dinner, and this really did have them in stitches!

Lastly we received some Angry Birds Wall Decals which can be personalised with your child’s name and a range of sizes. We haven’t put ours up yet as Harry’s room needs painting first but I know it will take pride of place on his bedroom wall! You can see an example from the website below and I’ll be sure to share ours when it’s all finished!

We absolutely loved our Angry Birds piñata and the products inside. As I tucked Harry into bed tonight, wearing his Angry Birds pyjamas, he made me promise we could watch the The Angry Birds 2 Movie five billion times this weekend and although I’m not sure that’s entirely possible, we’ll give it our best shot.
