Remember, remember the 5th November for all the right reasons this year by throwing your own party! 

Bonfire Night doesn’t have to mean an elaborate firework display, nor do you need a rip-roaring fire in your garden. Rather, all it takes are some tasty treats, small fireworks and some extra little touches and you’ll all be enjoying a night to remember.  

Here’s how:  

Fireworks  

No matter how small your garden, you can still enjoy a fantastic fireworks display (even if it’s watching the one at the local pub or park!).  

However, if you are going to let off a few of your own fireworks, think about the type of fireworks you want. I for one hadn’t realised what a minefield fireworks were until I started researching them… 

You can buy huge boxes of fireworks that take care of the display for you – and many companies allow you to watch an example display online before.  

Some of these boxes of fireworks are referred to as ‘cakes’ and have taken over from traditional ‘Roman candles’. There’s only one fuse to light and the box releases each firework individually. And no firework display would be complete without a Catherine wheel and rocket or two, of course! 

Finally, be sure to buy some sparklers for you all to enjoy. These are super easy to light and are great if you are struggling for space to set off fireworks (remember – you’ll need a good distance – 5 to 8 metres – between you and the fireworks).  

Food and Drink  

There are a few treats that really evoke that Bonfire Night feeling including jacket potatoes, chilli-con-carne and toffee apples – oh, and a piece or two of ginger cake.  

You’ll find plenty of recipes online that boast a warming feel, perfect if you’re going to be standing outside watching displays for quite some time.  

And don’t forget to rustle up some bonfire bunch. Again, you’ll find lots of fun recipes online including ones for hot toffee apple punch – yum! 

Plus, as another extra-special treat for the adults, why not give them a miniature spirit or two when they arrive? Companies like Just Miniatures have a vast array of miniatures on offer, from gin and whiskey to cocktails and rum, I love the whisky cocktails! You could even incorporate these into fun party bags for your guests to enjoy throughout the night or to take away with them at the end.  

Set the Tone  

Finally, to really bring your exciting theme to life, set the mood inside your home with fairy lights, candles and some cool decorations (you could even use some of the ones left over from Halloween, especially the black and orange coloured ones!).  

Armed with all these tips, your bonfire party is sure to go with a bang this year.
