Create A Minimalist Living Room With Just 4 Items

Minimalism is much more than an interior design trend. In fact, it can be something that helps you save a lot of money throughout your life. The idea of “less is more” encourages you to stop spending money on items that you don’t actually need. This is very evident when you look at most people’s living rooms. Be honest, how many things do you actually need or use in your living room? Some households can have loads of furniture and items in there, most of which are just for show.

In reality, you can create a comfortable living space with only four items – and here they are:

Sofa

Every living room needs a sofa, but you don’t always need more than one. Likewise, there’s no need for armchairs if you have a small family. Most living rooms only need one sofa, and that’s it. Choose one that can seat your entire family – plus maybe a guest or two. L-shaped sofas are really useful here as they provide lots of seating space without taking up loads of floor space.

Coffee table

You may argue that a coffee table isn’t essential, but it prevents your living room from feeling too bare. It’s also a place to put other decorative pieces – like some nice candles or potpourri. Plus, you can put mugs and glasses on this table if you’re drinking. However, if you have a coffee table in front of your sofa, you don’t need any side tables.

Side tables might look nice, but they take up extra space in your living area. What I will say is, if you can find a coffee table that has two nesting side tables under it, they could be allowed. They’re hidden under the table when not in use, only coming out in special circumstances.

TV unit

Every living room will have a TV, so every living room needs a TV unit. This acts as a stand for the television, but it also does more than that. You can buy TV units that come with so much additional storage space on the inside. Basically, they are more like cabinets that TV stands! This gives you lots of interior storage to keep some of the clutter from your living room.

Consequently, you free up space in the living room and make it look a lot neater and more minimalistic.

A shelving unit

You might think this is overkill, but adding one shelving unit to your living room is a genius idea. Again, it gives you some extra storage space, but it also presents you with places to put other decorative elements.

For example, you could put plants in pots on the shelves, adding some much-needed greenery to your living room. Photos or art can be placed there too, bringing some substance to the area.

The key to a minimalist living room isn’t just to remove as much junk as possible. It is also about creating a room that feels livable and isn’t too empty. The ideas above show you that you can do this with just four different items of furniture!
