How to Plan an Italian City Break
Italy has a plethora of things to offer; not only is it home to some of the most breathtaking views but has an incredible culture that is a product of its varied and lengthy history. Because of this, it is easy to see why people return to the country year-after-year, making it a top travel destination for families and couples alike. Whether you’re looking for the perfect beach spot to work on your tan or are interested in exploring the myriad of churches and architectural delights that Italy has to offer, here are some helpful tips for when you decide to plan an Italian City Break.

Accommodation
Depending on the region, your selection of accommodation may vary. While soaking up the sun in Puglia may leave you wishing to return to an authentic Trulli, a cone-shaped hut that is synonymous with the region, after exploring the Tuscan vineyards, having a luxury property oozing in opulence waiting for you might be a little more on the cards. There are many different things to consider when booking your accommodation, but it is important to remember that this is your base for the week, so it should be somewhere that you’re happy to return to.
Time of Year
If you’re travelling with children, you may be a little bit more restricted on when you can jet off to Italy. With the price of holidays increasing out of term time, it is essential to consider when you’re planning on travelling in advance. Booking early not only avoids disappointment with Italian villas being overbooked, but it also means that the price is a little lower, saving you money which can be used on gelato while wandering around!
Another important thing to consider is the weather. If you’re a fan of the cooler temperatures, then travelling at the height of summer is going to leave you feeling hot and sweaty! Look at the predicted temperatures for each month and decide which works best for your group and your plans for your holiday – you won’t want to be sightseeing and exploring the country by foot in 30ºC temperatures.
Your Group
Holidays are an opportunity to create memories with some of your favourite people. Whether you love joining forces with your friends, making it a group affair, or prefer some family time together where you can bond, who you decide to travel with has a significant impact on your break. If you’re considering going away with some of your nearest and dearest, it is essential to discuss what you’re all hoping to get out of your time away, and the flexibility of each family in the group. Discussing this early will prevent any mishaps happening while away and will allow you to organise things earlier.
Italian cities have so much to offer regarding architecture and art. With churches at almost every corner and galleries displaying some of the best-known pieces of art in the world, your trip to the city of your choice is no doubt going to involve a whole lot of walking! When looking at the group that you’re planning on travelling with it is important to factor in the ages of some of the youngest (and oldest!) people going. Your little one’s feet might be okay with the first couple of attractions on the cards for the day, but will tire quicker than some of the adults, so it is crucial that you think about this beforehand. Additionally, although there are many highlights that you may wish to see, including children by incorporating some time for fun, family activities that they can get involved in too!
