Our Wonderful Week: Not so wonderful after all 2/52
This week was not the week I had planned it to be, and certainly not the week I had hoped it to be. With the children back in school on Monday I was excited for Megan to return following her surgery – healthier, happier, and ready for full attendance for the first time in her school life! So on Sunday evening when she developed a temperature, so high she was soaked right through, delirious with the fever, and complained her whole body hurt, we couldn’t quite believe that after regaining her health over the Christmas holidays, we were right back at square one!
Obviously it couldn’t be helped and, after a visit to the doctor and another course of antibiotics, she picked up by the end of the week just in time for me to come down with a similar virus. There is only one thing worse than looking after poorly children, and that’s looking after poorly children when you’re poorly yourself! And due to the fact I live with several chronic illnesses, when I get a virus, or an infection, or even just a common cold, it completely and utterly floors me!
So all of my big plans for the week went out of the window and I finally listened to my body and slept, read and just took it easy. The one good thing to come out of it was that I realised just how much I had missed reading for pleasure and created a facebook group, 52 Books Challenge, to invite others to join me in my quest to read 52 books in 2020. We’ve already got a lovely group sharing book recommendations, reviews and starting next month a book club to enjoy.
Part of my promise to myself for 2020 was to take care of myself far more than I have been doing, be that in the form of taking time out to read a book, getting outdoors for a walk each day, making time for a proper lunch hour or to catch up with friends, and just exerting a little self love. And I feel like this week, however poorly I’ve felt, I’ve managed to do just that.
I’m hoping this coming week sees us all back to full health – fingers crossed!!

Get well soon, you can’t be ill for long with little people to look after and good luck with your New Year Resolution, mine is similar and is working well.
Sorry you came down with it! I love the idea of reading 52 books!
