Win Indesit Innex washing machine #DoItTogether

In the UK, 81% of housework is still done by women, something which really surprises me in a modern society. There appears to be a huge gender imbalance in domestic chores, despite the fact that many women work full time, whilst raising children. And whilst we have made great strides forward in equal rights, housework is an area where there is still a huge distance to travel. According to the OECD, “female partners spend twice as much time on housework than men”.

For that reason, I am supporting Indesit in their campaign, #DoItTogether, to raise awareness of this gender imbalance, and encourage families to split the chores more fairly. It is so important to break down the idea that some jobs belong to certain people in the household, be that male or female, and doing so would be a crucial step towards true equality.

Not only are Indesit encouraging families of every type to take positive action, but they are continuing to create appliances that make everyday tasks simpler, faster and stress-free. After all, none of us enjoy housework and I know I would do just about anything to reduce the burden it brings, especially with four children!

Household appliances – no matter how humble – have actually played a vital historical role in the story of gender equality, by automating so much of the hard domestic chores that once dominated women’s lives. Yet even today, the complexity of some appliances can stand in the way of more flexible home lives. One aspect of #DoItTogether is to show that thanks to Indesit’s brilliantly easy to use appliances, sharing is now so much simpler.

“Through better product design we can ensure that specific domestic tasks no longer require one person in the household to have special knowledge of how to work an appliance,” explains Sara Bazeley, Brand Manager, Indesit. “With both #DoItTogether and our latest products, our goal is ensure that anyone in the home – male or female – young or old – should feel it is within their ability and their responsibility to do their bit.”

I love this idea, particularly when I have heard countless friends complain about their other halves, “He doesn’t even know how to use the washing machine!”. But thanks to products like the Innex washing machine with the ultra-simple Push & Wash feature that starts a cycle with a single press of a button, the eXtra hygienic dishwasher with a dedicated BabyCare Cycle for maximum hygiene, and the Aria oven and microwave with a dedicated Turn&Cook dial for fast access to simpler assisted cooking modes, there really is no excuse!

Indesit have produced an amazing video to support this campaign and, rather embarrassingly, it really made me quite emotional! I think as a Mum, and as a daughter, I saw a lot of myself and my own Mum in the video and realised just how much pressure we feel at times to juggle all aspects of life.

To support the #DoItTogether campaign Indesit are giving one lucky reader the chance to win an Innex Washing Machine worth £379.99, featuring the Push & Wash programme. With a 10kg capacity and 1600rpm, a 45 minute stain removal cycle, and the option to schedule a wash up to 24 hours into the future, it’s perfect for busy families!

To enter simply follow the link below and one lucky winner will be chosen at random and notified via email at close of competition on Sunday 15th July. Terms & Conditions apply. ** Good Luck!
