Win 7 of the best family board games for Christmas!

I don’t know about you but Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a board game of sorts. I know when I was little, every year without fail, I would get the latest board game and spend the whole day waiting to play it. As soon as dinner was over and the dishes were all cleared away, we would get it out on the table and my parents, my brother, and I would study the instructions and off we would go.

We’ve had some great games over the years, and some not so great games, but Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without one. This year I bring you seven of the best family games and I guarantee you that they are all great fun!

My first game is Staccups, and I’m pretty sure it is this years must have game! I played it back in September at BlogOn and let me tell you, the concept might be simple but it is so addictive!

The idea is to race your opponent against the clock to see who is the fastest at stacking their cups. Colour co-ordinated, this fast-paced game is all about reaction times and hand eye co-ordination and the first to get rid of all their cups wins! I love that this is an all round family game and it’s something we are really going to enjoy playing this Christmas. Even better, Staccups is currently on offer at just £12.99 from Smyths toys.

Our second game is Don’t be a donkey which is so much fun to play! It’s a fast paced, card swapping, carrot grabbing game and perfect for families with young children. The idea is to get a set of 4 matching cards and when you do shout donkey and grab a carrot. If you aren’t fast enough to get a carrot you lift one of your donkey ears, lose three times and you become the donkey!! I can’t wait to play this on Christmas day and something tells me the children will love seeing Grandad become the donkey!! RRP £19.99

Next up is a really fun game, Bunny Jump. It actually reminds me a lot of one of our favourites, Pop up Pirate as the concept is quite similar. You take it in turns to pull out carrots and when the bunny jumps the player with the most carrots is the winner. I love games like this where even small children can get involved and my children get so excited waiting for the bunny to pop! RRP £19.99.

Operation has always been one of my favourites from being young and I love that there are so many editions these days. This one, Operation Dinosaurs, from the Natural History Museum is probably my favourite to date and for Harry, who is dinosaur mad, it may well be his favourite game of all time!

A steady hand is needed to carefully excavate all the precious pieces of a fearsome T.Rex fossil in this new and scientist-approved game. Help inspire the next generation of paleontologists whilst having a blast with this family-friendly game. RRP 22.00.

Now I’m a huge fan of the TV show Mr & Mrs so I love that they have brought out a board game based on this popular show. The game is a family edition where players are challenged to answer in-depth and entertaining questions about their partner, friends or family members. It has over 300 questions guaranteed to cause laughter, blushes, blank looks and a whole lot more! This is definitely going to be a firm favourite for after dinner this Christmas! RRP £19.99

Everyone needs a Christmas themed board game and this year is all about The Very Merry Christmas Game. To play the idea is simple, move around the board collecting presents to put in your stocking and the presents have a value depending whether they’re nice….or naff! Presents can be given to other players, particularly the bad ones, and you can take other players gifts off them too – decided on the pull of a cracker.

There are some fun features such as if you land on the singing space you have to sing a verse from a Christmas song or carol to avoid losing one of your gifts. The player with the best presents at the end of the game is the winner! This is a really fun, family friendly game that everyone, young and old, will really enjoy and I definitely recommend it! RRP £19.99.

And lastly we have the Cars Piston Cup Race game from the makers of Cars, Disney. Lightning McQueen and Jackson Storm go head-to-head in the Disney Pixar Cars 3 Piston Cup Racing Game.

Rev your engines ready for the thrilling race and when the light goes green it’s time to start pumping the electronic gas pedal to accelerate your car forward along the track. Be careful when the red light shows you should break, if you hit the gas pump on a red light you must move your car backwards. The winner is the first player to complete the track! RRP £19.99.
