Infant Colic Awareness Campaign ** Win The White Company Sleeping Bag **

You’d think that by the time I had Megan, our fourth baby, I would be pretty clued up about all things baby. And yet from the day we brought her home, after her time in neonatal, she cried day and night. At the time I tried to tell myself that all babies cried, that it was entirely normal and that once she got into a routine it would improve, and yet when three months passed and she was still crying each day, I started to think that perhaps this wasn’t normal after all.

When the GP finally diagnosed Megan with colic, which later turned into severe reflux, I was surprised that I had not heard of it before. It turns out that a recent survey conducted by Infacol shows that 1 in 3 British Mothers weren’t aware of infantile colic before they had their first babies either.

With colic affecting 1 in 5 babies you would think it was something we were all a little more clued up on, but the signs and symptoms can seem quite normal for a newborn should you be unaware of colic. The main symptoms are –

  • Intense crying bouts
  • Crying in the late afternoon or evening that lasts several hours
  • The baby’s face is red and flushed when they cry
  • The baby clenches their fists, draws their knees up or arches their back while crying

This is why Infacol, Britain’s Number One Colic Remedy, and Cry-Sis, the onlyparenting charity dedicated to supporting parents through excessive infant crying, havelaunched the first Infant Colic Awareness Campaign. The campaign has been designed to educate and support parents to ensure they can experience the joys of parenthood to the full.
