Ever since Debenhams very kindly sent the children brand new raincoats for Spring, all I’ve heard each single morning is, “Can we wear our new coats today?”. With the weather lurching between gale force winds, snow blizzards and sub zero temperatures, I’ve had three very disappointed children wearing their winter coats, hats and scarves each day, looking longingly at their beautiful new coats waiting in the wardrobes.
Today, with the snow finally cleared and the temperatures raising ever so slightly, you’d have thought it was Christmas and their birthdays all come at once when I told them that they could finally wear their new coats. “This is the best day ever!” Harry said as he put his new Jasper Conran Raincoat,“I look so cool!”.
The girls were sent the most stunning pink rainmacs from Ted Baker and I’ll be honest with you, I want one for myself! With rose gold fastenings and a concealed hood they are not only beautiful, but practical too.
After weeks of being cooped up indoors we decided to brave the rain and go for a walk in the woods, something we haven’t done at all this year due to the children being unwell or the weather too bad. Nothing beats getting outdoors, breathing in some fresh air and letting the children run wild!
As we walked through the woods I couldn’t help but notice how grown up the children appeared compared to the last time we were there, just a few months earlier. As they ran ahead of me, no longer holding my hand in the same way they once did, I felt a lump in my throat as I mentally calculated that in just six months time all three of them will be in school and our days of walking in the woods will be strictly limited to the weekend.
As we walked along, with me getting muddier and wetter with every step, I promised myself that over the next few months we will make the most of every moment, regardless of the weather. As long as the children are warm and dry we don’t need good weather to make memories – just give my children a stick, a pair of wellies to splash in the stream and the challenge of a pinecone hunt, and they genuinely could not be happier!
Thanks to Debenhams we made it all the way round the woods with only one of us moaning about being cold and wet – me!! I love that Harry’s raincoat has a little visor on the hood to keep his little nose dry from raindrops, I could have done with one myself!
By the time we made it to the playground the rain had finally cleared and, after an hour playing on the swings, we were all in need of a steaming hot chocolate and marshmallows to warm us up. It felt so good to have finally made it out and I only hope that over the coming months we have so many more adventures ahead.
