When the weather is nice there is nothing we love more than a picnic. It’s one of our favourite things to do together as a family, to just pack up a bag, throw in the football, and find a peaceful spot where the children can run themselves stupid. So when I learned that this week is National Picnic Week, given the amazing weather we have been having, we decided to spend Fathers Day having a picnic together in Worden Park.
It was also a great opportunity to try our new Picnic bag and blanket from B&M which, despite our love of picnics, is our first “official” picnic bag, loaded with 27 pieces and plenty of room to keep our goodies cold in the heat!
We are very lucky that our park is gorgeous, I genuinely love living where we do, and with so much space to run and play it can often feel as though we are the only people down there some days. The girls favourite thing to do is to make daisy chains and yet with only buttercups at hand, we had to improvise!
Whilst Gaz and Harry battled it out with the football, the girls and I made buttercup headbands together, and it was lovely to just have that time to relax when so many of our days are spend rushing around from one place to the next. I love those quiet moments, even more so when the sun is shining!
All of the running around was thirsty work, and the children were desperate for a drink. Usually the children drink from plastic cups or their water bottles so it was hilarious to see their reactions when they saw the plastic wine glasses, and they couldn’t wait to try them!
“Look Eva! We have lady cups!!” Megan said, which made me laugh so much. “Now we just need our wine!” Eva said, and I have no idea where she has got that from…..*ahem*…..
For the next twenty minutes they sat there, sipping their drinks, shouting, “Cheers!!” every two minutes, clashing their glasses together and laughing hysterically, very much like my friends and I on a night out!!
I loved how cool our food kept in the bag, and how much space there was for the mountain of sandwiches, snacks and drinks I had packed!
One of my favourite parts about picnics is usually after the children have eaten and drank every last bit we have packed, when they are finally full (this is some mean feat!) and happy to run around like lunatics whilst I can lie back on the blanket, close my eyes…..and let Daddy take over for an hour or so!
Our day at the park was lovely, so much so that we have plans to do the same again this next weekend. This is what making memories is all about for me, proof that you don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great day out, and a reminder that it doesn’t matter where you are, it only matters who you’re with.
