Do you ever get the feeling that you’re stuck in a rut? That you wake up each morning, put on the same clothes, look at the same face in the mirror, and do the same monotonous tasks, every single day? I know I do, and it turns out I’m not the only one, with a recent study showing that 9/10 of us feel we are stuck in a rut, in our very own version of Groundhog Day.
I am very much a creature of habit, and I don’t particularly like change at all, yet some days that monotony really gets me down and I long for something different to happen outside of my daily routine. Far too often I sit at my desk and, although I love my job, find myself staring at the same computer screen day in, day out, wondering what happened to my spontaneity and zest for life. Because although, with four children, routine is very important in our family, there is a whole world out there of places I want to go, and things I want to do, and it’s about time I took steps to make that happen!
Highland Spring’s ‘H20omph’ campaign encourages the nation to celebrate life by venturing outside of their comfort zone. They are calling for people to shake up their routine, and add a little H20omph into their day. And I jumped at the chance to be a part of this campaign!
Although I joined the gym earlier this year in a bid to increase my fitness, with Summer approaching, and in desperate need of some Vitamin D, I really wanted to start exercising outdoors. I’ll be honest with you, exercising full stop is quite difficult for me. I am incredibly self-conscious and massively self-critical, and there are days when I’m panting for breath in the back of a fitness hall, my cheeks burning with embarrassment as I convince myself that all eyes are on me! So the thought of going outdoors, in public, was a huge deal for me and one I wasn’t sure I would have the confidence to attempt!
But, thanks to Highland Spring, I decided that it was time to add a little H20omph into my life and I pledged that, weather depending, I will get out on my bike and cycle three times a week, even if I only manage a couple of miles. And so, I did.
Luckily we have lots of country roads by our house where no cars are allowed, making it a really safe place to cycle or walk, and less chance of being spotted puffing and panting up any steep hills! As I set off on my bike, a little wobbly admittedly, I instantly remembered how much I love being outdoors, feeling the wind in my hair and the sun on my face, and that wonderful sense of freedom! I cycled for two miles that first night and five the following, and somehow, with a little persuasion, I found myself purchasing a bicycle helmet, donning a little lycra, and by the third attempt last week I hit the roads, in public, and I absolutely loved it!!
It’s funny how just one small change to your routine can boost your mood, how switching up your day, be that by trying something new, making a little time for yourself, braving a bold lipstick or a new haircut, can make such a huge difference in your life. And it’s interesting that since I injected a little H20omph into my life, it has made me want to switch up my routine in other areas of my life, to experiment wth a new outfit, new recipes, spontaneous days out, or take a little time out of the daily grind to see friends.
To help you embrace a little H20omph in your life, Highland Spring are giving away 10,000 opportunities to win H20omph experiences by picking up a promotional pack of water in store. You can find out more and enter the giveaway here. Good Luck!!
