Where to travel in 2020

I think it’s safe to say that January is tough for all of us, particularly here in the UK where we are bombarded with cold temperatures and grey skies, and feeling utterly exhausted as a result. As someone who lives with chronic illness I struggle a lot with my health during the Winter months, finding it increasingly difficult to manage my pain levels as the months become colder. And so for that reason, I try and use January to be kinder to myself, to take time to do the things I enjoy, and mostly to plan our adventures throughout the coming year to give us something to look forward to.

Every year our travel wish list continues to grow and this year, it’s longer than ever. I am so excited to be able to tick off New York from our bucket list at the end of the month and yet I also know that the temperatures over there right now are even colder than here! For that reason I am hoping to book a few sunny destinations into our year and thought I would share our top five choices.

1. Tenerife

At the end of 2018 I enjoyed a press trip to Tenerife with two other bloggers and we had an absolute BLAST! I had never been to the Canary Islands before and had been unsure what to expect but honestly, I loved every minute of it. Not only does it offer a warm and sunny climate pretty much all year round, but there are so many fantastic attractions for families such as mine.

During our stay we went up a volcano, went in a submarine, visited Siam Park (the most incredible water park I’ve ever been to!) and basked in the sunshine in a gorgeous resort. I think our children would absolutely love it and we’ve been checking out some last minute deals to Tenerife!

2. Morocco

Morocco has been on our bucket list for a long time now and yet I’ve been wavering over just how safe I would feel taking the children to a country I know very little about. Over the last few months I’ve been reading as much as possible about it, researching the best places to go, and the best ways to stay safe, and speaking to those who have been and how they found it. I have literally not found a single person who had anything bad to say and actually, most people I know have visited year after year.

For us, the main draw to Morocco with the family is a cross between the weather and the incredible 5 star resorts over there. Compared to other countries Morocco seems to offer far more for your money and although we haven’t yet made a decision, it does rank highly on our list!

3. Crete

As Greece’s largest island, Crete is somewhere I have wanted to visit for a long time now. I adore mainland Greece but have never visited any of the islands and perhaps 2020 is the year to change that! With both beaches and mountains, history and culture, I feel it would offer to much to both Gaz and I as well as the kids.

As the children get older we have been trying to steer away from the traditional beach holidays and, although of course we love beach days too, try to see as much of the countries we visit as possible. I thin the children would love learning more about Greek mythology and visiting some of the museums and ancient settlements.

4. Romania

Of all the places I visited last year. Romania was my absolute favourite. I was lucky enough to travel Romania for two weeks with a group of 50 other influencers from around the world and, although I missed Gaz and the children terribly, it was the most unforgettable experience and I still can’t believe I did it! When I returned I promised the children that I would take them over there the first chance we got, and I’m hoping in 2020 I can do just that.

Romania has SO much to offer, from the historical city of Bucharest to the beach resorts in the south, and if you like castles then Romania is the place to go! In 2020 Timisoara has been named as the City of Culture and I think it would be the perfect time to take the children and introduce them to all of the wonderful places Mummy visited last Summer.

5. Rome

I love visiting European cities and we have been lucky enough to visit several. This Summer we are planning a road trip to Italy and I am hoping we can fit in a few days in Rome. It’s somewhere I have always wanted to visit and when I have talked about it with the children it’s lovely to see just how interested they are at learning more.

I love that at five, six, seven and fifteen the children are finally at an age where we can do city breaks, walk for miles and  indulge in our love off history and culture. Italy has so much to offer and I want to see as much of it as possible.

So there you go, the top five places we are considering for 2020 as well as exploring more of our UK coastlines too. There are some amazing cheap caravan holidays in Cornwall I have my eye on!. 52 weeks just doesn’t seem like long enough to fit it all in! Where do you want to visit in 2020?
