Top 5 places to stay in The Lake District this Autumn
As I have shared countless times before, the Lake District is one of our favourite places in all the world. Just over an hours drive from home, as soon as you hit the lakes and the hills, it feels as though you’re a world away from your daily worries and routine. For that reason it’s somewhere we try and visit as often as possible, staying in various places, depending on the time of year. I’m sharing my top 5 places to stay in the Lake District this Autumn.
1. Glamping
Glamping is definitely not just for the Summer months, and we have actually enjoyed some of our favourite glamping trips through the winter. There are countless glamping sites throughout the lakes, many overlooking the lakes, and stays range in prices to suit all budgets. We prefer to stay in glamping pods where everything is provided, even down to bedding and towels, but if you want to save money you can bring your own camping beds and sleeping bags and get some really good deals, especially mid-week.
2. A Cosy Cottage
For me, when I think of the Lake District I think of cosy cottages, open fires, and admiring the view with a hot chocolate in my hand, and renting a cottage is the perfect way to do this. Nothing beats coming back to a cottage after a long day exploring and knowing you can just relax, get cosy and warm, and enjoy all of your home comforts in beautiful surroundings.
3. B&B Accommodation
The Lake District is full of B&B accommodations which are perfect for those looking for a base to explore and a hot breakfast each morning. As a family I find we lean more towards self catering accommodation but as a couple, Gaz and I often stay in a B&B and enjoy the freedom it gives us for eating out and really make the most of our time away. What better excuse to sample the local restaurants?
4. A Tree House
Autumn is such a beautiful time of year and there is no better way to get to grips with nature than staying in a tree house! The Lake District has some real hidden gems which are well worth researching before your stay.
5. A Boathouse
With so many beautiful lakes in Cumbria staying in a boathouse gives the perfect opportunity to really make the most of the views and enjoy accommodation slightly outside of the norm. Many of the converted boathouses even have hot tubs overlooking the lakes to enjoy the outdoors even on these dark, chilly nights.
