Things to consider when choosing a feature wall
I am a big fan of a feature wall and although we don’t yet have them in our living space, the children do have them in their bedrooms. As a blogger, a feature wall is pretty much a given – are you even a blogger if you don’t have brick slips in your living room? That said, there are many things to consider when choosing a feature wall and I am sharing my top five.
Avoid feature walls in an over crowded room
When there’s too much going on in a space it can be confusing to the eye and it creates a sense of chaos. A feature wall should be a highlight, so it needs room to breathe.
Choose the colour or pattern wisely
Sometimes people tend to go a little more risqué with the colour and pattern choice for a feature wall, which often pays off, but only when it fits in with the rest of the room. Just remember that you need to live with whatever you choose for the foreseeable future, unless of course you’re a fan of redecorating!
Be creative with your materials
Don’t limit yourself to just paint or wallpaper, you can create a fantastic feature wall with all kinds of materials such as wood, tile, and even stone.
Use feature walls to define living spaces
A great way to define a living space, particularly in an open plan living area, is to use a feature wall. You can easily highlight the dining or living area by creating a clear divide between the living spaces.
Choose the right wall
Make sure that you are choosing the right wall to highlight, this should be the rooms existing focal point. So in a bedroom the wall in which the bed is against, or in a living area the wall where you place your television. If you stick to this rule you really can’t go wrong.
