5 ways to makeover your bedroom on a budget
When we first bought our house our main priority was decorating the children’s bedrooms and making sure our living space was just how we wanted it. Four years on and it is finally time for our bedroom to be decorated, although having recently done both bathrooms, our budget is a little lower than I’d hoped.

I have been looking at ways to make a big difference on a small budget, and it turns out it’s not as difficult as we thought!
Paint your walls
Painting a room is way more cost effective than wall papering, especially if, like us, you need to pay a decorator to do it! The great thing about paint is that it can easily be painted over with an alternative colour should you decide to switch things up. It’s also relatively low cost to buy, especially if you shop at whole sale stores and buy in bulk.
Stylish Skirting Boards
Whilst it’s easy to want to cut corners when you’re on a tight budget, it’s still important to pay attention to detail, and skirting boards can really change the feel of a room. We have gone for tall mdf skirting boards which look great and can easily be painted white gloss to showcase our wall colour.
Upcycle your furniture
If your existing furniture is in good condition, upcycling is the perfect way to cut costs while changing the feel of a room. Using chalk paint we have managed to change all of our furniture to a stylish white, which is in keeping with our new decor, and cost very little.
Add soft furnishings
Soft furnishings are the perfect way to give any room a makeover, without making any permanent changes. With clever use of throws, fabrics, pillows and drapes, you can completely makeover your bedroom in no time at all!
Mood lighting
The correct lighting can change the whole feel of a room, and for a bedroom you can easily create a boudoir feel with a luxurious chandelier or perfectly positioned lamps. Stylish lighting need not be expensive and can even be purchased second hand for those on a really tight budget.
So there you go, my top tips for a bedroom makeover on a budget. Watch this space to see ours when it all comes together!

Great post! It’s always great to get some design inspiration for a new space. Lots of people love to decorate once they move into a new build but sometimes you can be restricted by your budget if you’ve only just bought a house. I love the idea of up-cycling furniture – I think it’s a great way to add some personal touches to your bedroom.
