The ‘Mysteries’ Of Feminine Health

There seems to be a lot of ‘mysteries’ surrounding a woman’s body. Even in the modern era, there’s less research as to what our systems do compared to the male body, and less and less of this information is published to be available for the general public. Of course this is wrong, but breaking this mold using your own research, and blog posts like these, can make you feel a lot more comfortable in your own body!

Health is something that’s all part of a lifestyle, but when there’s nothing out there to tell you about it, what are you meant to do? Yet, there’s a lot of woman’s body can do, and a lot of the time this can be condemned by the media. Just by searching google you can find so many ways to ‘fix’ the problems we think we have with our bodies, and don’t actually inform us about what is going on.

It’s time to fix that! So if you’re on the lookout for a little more information on why you do this, or why does that look like that, we’re here to help! Here’s a select few of the biggest questions most women don’t know the answer too, or have been given misinformation on. When it comes to taking care of yourself, it should be easy to do!

Does My Belly Pouch Mean I’m Fat?

Absolutely not! It’s completely normal to have more of a bulge at the bottom of your abdomen compared to the flatness of the rest of your body. This little pouch, or pooch as it’s sometimes known, is how your body protects your reproductive organs, and it’s also a little something left over from our evolutionary days. By that we mean it helps to signal that a body is female, and it can attract mates over. Weird to think of by our current standards hey?

Of course not everyone has this kind of ‘fat’ below their belly button, but then again every body is different and the same things shouldn’t be seen in everyone! There’s a lot of organs inside your body, and they need to be able to rest against the walls of your muscles, which inevitably pushes your skin out a little. There’s nothing to be lost from there, but it can be toned up a little if you’re really uncomfortable about it.

Should I Be Taking More Care of My Feminine Hygiene?

Usually, no. Your vagina is wonderful at cleaning itself out, and any douching you possibly want to do can remove a lot of the necessary bacteria we need down there to protect ourselves. Overall, a general wash when you’re in the shower with a bit of water will go far enough.

You don’t want to be washing with any soaps or substances we like to use in the shower to feel, smell, and look pretty, as these can dramatically change the pH balance of our skin down there. Also, be sure to wear some cotton underwear instead of the other materials, as this creates more a breathable environment underneath trousers, leggings, and tights. No more excess moisture (and the possible smell!) for you to worry about.

What should you do if you miss taking your pill?

First of all, don’t panic! Then take the one you missed immediately, with a bit of water to wash it down and keep the flush of panic out of your cheeks as well. Then sit down and continue to enjoy whatever it was you were doing before, or get back to the slog of what you were having to complete at your desk.

Questions like the one above are always the ones that catch us out, and there’s always misinformation out there that we shouldn’t read up on. A lot of stuff on the internet is wrong, and fact checking is often in short supply when every single top search result is telling you the same thing! So don’t blame yourself for forgetting, and contact your doctor if you’re really worried. No matter is too small for a comforting word from your GP.

Will I Know When I’m Pregnant?

Pregnancy is a hotly contended issue, and every woman out there capable of becoming pregnant can have a different experience. As a matter of knowing whether you’re pregnant or not, a lot of information from the TV and the internet tells us that randomly being sick in the morning is the one sign we should look out for. Yet, once again, this is wrong!

Morning sickness is typically experienced at the 6 week mark, as your body is getting used to having another human being growing inside of it! Other people can get it at the 3 week mark, and others can simply not get it at all. It’s not harmful, and it doesn’t do anything except make you uncomfortable in the morning. Only when it becomes uncontrollable and constant should you worry! So we can see there’s a lot of variation in this sign alone, and that means there can be an awful lot of variation in the other signs as well.

Usually people can tell that they’re pregnant around about the 2 to 3 week mark, as this is when your body’s hormones start to change and you get a little more down or up, depending on the type of person you are! So, as soon as you notice a difference, it would be a good idea to take a pregnancy test, and then see your doctor. They can confirm whether you actually are or not, and then it’s time to celebrate if you’re up to it!

So there it is! There’s a lot of questions women needs answering about their own bodies, but when you’ve lived in your body for your whole life, you’re going to know it and what it gets up to. Trust your own instincts when it comes to health matters, and always utilise the services of a doctor when you feel the need to.

  1. This is a great informative post! We often question so many things and resort to google for answers! Best to contact the GP when in doubt!

  2. Writing and discussing about health and woman health is very useful, mainly because I’ve noticed that, despite hw much we can be informed by any communication mean, I see many people (young and no more young) hardly know how period works, how hormones can influence our daily life (there’s much myths and very little truth in what we hear around), etc.
    Great post, very useful!

  3. The ultimate guide to female health! Women nowadays are so conscious about their figures that they tend to be anorexic just to look perfect and fit in a group. A salute to your article for creating awareness to female health! Women should read more of your posts!

  5. Good to know that my little bit of a chubby tummy is perfectly normal 🙂 so many models across social media and on the online retailers have wafer thin bodies without an ounce of fat, and it can make you very self conscious if you do have a little bulge 🙁 x

  8. The belly pouch! I had never come to understand why it is ever there, especially when I see many women hit the gym trying to shed the pouch off…so today I know…mmh..that’s a mystery solved for sure! 9. We need more female bloggers like you to talk about female health. Our society is full of myths and taboos that they even can’t justify after a certain point and yet others chose to blindly follow those myths without getting into the core of it. Great job and I will be waiting for more such posts!!

    1. Thank you Sayanti! I definitely think we should all be breaking down taboos, it’s so important ! xx

  10. These are great observations and tips. When I was a child, my mother’s gynecologist advised her to wear only cotton underwear and I have been doing so too for many years. Granny pantys go a long way to covering up that belly pouch 🙂

  11. I can remember when I just knew I was pregnant with both of my kids. Maybe it was a mother’s intuition, but I felt a little tingly all over. Also, where would the woman who invented Spanx be if we beautiful women didn’t have belly pouches to worry about? x

    1. It’s crazy isnt it how, as women, we just KNOW?! I knew I was pregnant each time and also the sex of them from day one! xx
