Mummy & Daughter Bonding: Here’s How to Get Involved
That daughter of yours that you wished for and finally got? She worships the ground you walk on, Mama. She looks up to you and she wants to be by your side, emulating everything that you do every single day. With her by your side, you will have a future best friend just waiting to be there for you and laugh with you, copy your style and steal your clothing.
Daughters are notoriously known for being “Daddy’s girl”, but the thing is, it’s you – her mother – that is the most important person. You’re the person she’s going to turn to at every issue and turn. She’s going to look to you to help mend her broken heart, to help her through relationships and pregnancies – it all comes together to show you that as her mother, your daughter is going to want you. There are plenty of ways that you can bond with your daughter and it starts when she’s small with Mommy and me outfits and keeps going with the day she chooses to get her ears pierced. Bonding between a mother and a daughter is important, and below, we’ve got plenty of ways that you can get involved with bonding with your daughter now.

- Drive Together. When she hits her teenage years, she’s going to want to learn to drive, and you can be the person that helps her to learn. Take her for driving lessons and be with her – and be patient with it! You want this to be a good experience for both of you. On the days that you aren’t teaching her to drive, get her to put together a playlist and hit the road together. Talk, sing, laugh at stupid signs on the road. No matter what, just be with each other and get her to put her phone away. Being present in the moment is important.
- Teach Her to Cook. As much as you will do this with your sons, daughters need to learn to cook, too. All of those meals that she grew up eating with you can be your starting point. Ask your daughter which meals she loved the most and build cookery lessons around those meals. Go for the sweet stuff and bake cakes and cookies, or choose to show off your skills with a full roast dinner. Either way, direct her to do it and teach her how to feel and smell food for its freshness, too.
- Tell Stories. Slumber parties aren’t just for teenagers. You can knock on your daughter’s door, armed with snacks and drinks. Climb into her bed and snuggle down – tell stories! Talk about your childhood and silly tidbits from your relationship with her Father. You’ll be able to tell her about being pregnant with her and about her own childhood. Let her learn about her life before she can remember it, and teach her all about who you were before her.
Your daughter needs you. She needs you to be patient and kind, understanding and interested in her. It’s time to get bonding and show your daughter you care.
