Increasing the Value of Your Home: Interior Tweaks you can Easily Make

One of the keys to getting the best price for your home when selling it, is to present or “stage” the interior correctly. With a little effort and very little cash, you can make small changes to your home that will really make it shine when it comes to viewings. Here are some tips for increasing the value of your home by tweaking the interior.

 Strip it Back

Starting with a “blank canvas” is always best practice when it comes to preparing the interior of a home ready for sale. Removing clutter and stripping each room back to the bare essentials is paramount.

Once you have done this and the interior is also spotlessly clean, you can move on to the next phase of the operation.

 Light and Fresh

In order for the interior to look its best, it needs to appear light and fresh – both online estate agents and potential buyers love rooms that feel spacious and airy. To achieve this, give the place a fresh coat of paint, in a light, neutral colour and if you have wooden floors, sand and re-wax them.

In addition, remove heavy curtains and any other features that are likely to impede the amount of natural light each room receives. Light is extremely important and so placing lamps, candles and mirrors in strategic positions also needs considering.

 Colour and Warmth

Whilst it is important that the interior comes across as light and fresh, it mustn’t seem to be cold and so thinking of how some colour and warmth can be brought into the equation is crucial.

Paintings and photographs are a good source of colour, as are flowers and will also make your interiors feel more homely.

When people are actually viewing the property, the warmth of colour provided by paintings etc, should be matched by the literal temperature. Showing an interior that is warm, but not too hot makes a big difference. Potential buyers need to feel calm, comfortable welcomed.

 A Reflection of You

Your property, in many ways, is a reflection of you and the lifestyle you lead and this needs to be sold to potential buyers in as positive a way as possible. Having some aspirational items scattered around, in a tidy and measured fashion can help achieve this.

For example, reading material, left on a coffee table and that reflects the aspirations of potential buyers is a good way to impress – a guide to the best restaurants in the area or a luxury holiday brochure often catch the eye.

Staging an interior ready for the sale of a property is not difficult, you are simply dressing the rooms to impress.
