How to Get Your Kids to Eat their Packed Lunch

If you find yourself getting annoyed because your kids never seem to be eating their packed lunch, then you will know how annoying this can be. You may feel as though nothing seems to work and that you are just not able to get anywhere. This is understandable, but there are things that you can do to try and make the whole process easier on yourself and on them.

Involve your Child in Lunch Planning, Packing and Assembling

If you want your kids to eat their packed lunch, then it is a good idea for you to involve them when planning and preparing meals. When kids have a say in what they eat, they will feel a much higher sense of control. This will then increase the chance of them actually eating whatever you give them. Give your child three options for their meal, such as whether they’d like a pita or tortilla, or a plum or peach. When you give them this kind of choice, you then give them the chance to decide what they want to have and why. You can also give your child a confidence boost by giving them a level of structured control. If your child has anxiety about certain foods, why not look into CBD gummies for kids?

Separate the Food

A lot of pre-schoolers or those of a young age go through a phase where they just don’t like some foods to touch one another. This will pass eventually. For example, you may find that your child doesn’t like to eat their macaroni and cheese with the peas mixed in but they might be more than happy to eat it with the peas on the side. It may also help to deconstruct the sandwiches you give them. You may find that your child ends up enjoying their meals much more when you do this.

Have Open Dialogue

It’s possible that your child is going to go on a strike from time to time, where they refuse to eat a combination of foods, or a certain food in general. There is normally nothing wrong with this, but it is important for you to have an open dialogue so that you can avoid this. Ask your child why they don’t want to eat a food anymore. Whether it is the colour, texture or flavour. It might be that the banana you send them to school with ends up being brown by the time dinner comes along. If this is the case then you need to make sure that you give them something else instead, so they can eat what they want.

Make sure your Child can Open the Box

This may sound silly to say the least, but when you have younger kids, you may find that they don’t have a good level of manual dexterity. They may come home with an unopened container of food and you’re left wondering why. If this is the case, then you need to do whatever you can to get to the root of the issue. When you do, you will soon find that you can help everyone.
