How to create more space in a small bedroom
Decorating a small bedroom can be difficult. You want to make it homely and comfortable but adding in even more furniture will leave you with even less space! However, there are a few ways to create more space in a small bedroom, that doesn’t mean you have to move out and find somewhere bigger… just follow these four tips below:
Use lighter tones and colours
Adding white tones into your bedroom is an expansive and practical colour choice. Lighter colours keep your space from looking too busy, and will actually make it appear bigger overall. White tones also brighten up the area and trick the eye into thinking there are larger wall spaces than there really are! If you’re afraid of white looking too stark, try layering your whites with different textures and patterns to break it up a bit.
Change your wardrobe
Wardrobes take up a lot of space – especially in a smaller bedroom. Compact rooms call for furniture that’s in proportion, and that includes wardrobe space too! By changing up your storage space to something that will match your room size, you can still keep all your belongings, just store them in a different way! Make the most of the angles and ceiling heights of your room by tucking in wardrobe space that works with your smaller bedroom, not against it.
Try different layouts
Sometimes maximising the space in a small bedroom isn’t about pushing everything right back against the walls, but just experimenting with different layouts. Try balancing your space by pulling your furniture away from the walls a little bit, or create a focal point by adding a group seating area around a coffee table in the corner. But remember, less is more with smaller rooms.
Remove curtains and let in the light!
Easily one of the easiest ways to expand your space – let in more light! Removing curtains and other upholstery from around the window area and opting for shutter blinds (or even nothing) will introduce plenty of natural light into your room which will make it seem a whole lot bigger. Turns out, those curtains are taking up way more space than you thought!
Maximising your space in a smaller bedroom and making it appear a whole lot bigger can be easier than you initially think. By using lighter tones and colours, being smart with your clothes storage space, experimenting with different layouts, and letting in more natural light, you will have the illusion of a master bedroom in no time!
