Getting to Know Your Partner Better: 5 Things You Can Do

Being in a relationship can be wonderful, but it’s also a lot of hard work. Knowing and understanding your partner takes time and effort and sometimes it can feel like you’re learning something new about them each day – which could be scary to some people.

If your relationship is getting serious but you feel like there’s still a lot you don’t know about the person you’re with, you might want to dedicate some time and energy to know one another on a deeper level.

Here are a few ways that you can do this in a way that still feels organic and fun.

Take Personality Tests

While personality tests aren’t all-knowing, they can still be pretty helpful for understanding yourself and others a little better. When you’re bored and hanging out with your partner, instead of sticking on a Netflix show, take a few personality tests together and read and compare your results.

When it comes to finding the best personality test, there are several options available, each with its own strengths and focus. One highly regarded personality test is the MBTI which assesses personality based on four main dimensions: extraversion or introversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving. By exploring your MBTI types, you can gain insights into your communication styles, decision-making processes, and even how you interact as a couple.

With an MBTI test, you’ll learn things like the INTP T meaning, the difference between T-types and F-types, how each type behaves in a relationship, and even how certain personalities handle parenting. This is all incredibly useful information for a relationship.

Play Q&A Games

This might feel unnatural, but asking and answering questions can be a whole lot of fun and lead to interesting and intricate conversations. Plus, they’re a super easy way to get to know more about your partner – from details about their childhood to the things that worry them in the present and even what they want for the future.

There are plenty of websites that offer lists of questions that will help you to get to know your partner on a deeper level. Grab some snacks, put on a playlist you both love and take turns asking and answering questions. Even silly ones will help you know one another better!

Travel Together

Travelling and exploring as a couple are some of the best things you can do for your relationship. When you’re away from the humdrum of your day-to-day lives, with nothing to focus on except each other, there’s nothing in the way of your unfiltered conversation.

You’ll create new memories together, learn what the other is like under different circumstances and find yourselves with plenty of time to just talk.

Meet Their Friends and Family

They say that a person is simply a product of the five people they spend the most time with, so getting to know those five people will help you understand your partner a lot better.

Family dynamics are important to understand if you’re planning on raising children together, so spending some time with their loved ones will give you an idea of their family relations, how they grew up and perhaps why they have certain habits.

Take an Interest in Their Interests

Quality time is simply the best way to get to know someone, so it’s important to be interested in your partner’s interests too. Do some activities together that you both enjoy – watch a sport they like, go and do your favourite type of exercise together and just explore one another’s likes and dislikes.
