Eliminate stress with these simple tip
It’s no secret that stress can have a huge impact on our bodies. At it’s most severe, it can cause gastrointestinal problems, hair loss and back pain (is your back pain from a specific injury? We are all concerned about the state of the world and how life is being impacted by the pandemic. It can be difficult to see beyond the troubles right now.
However, it’s important to try to eliminate stress. Your body will thank you for it. The following tips are a good place to start.
Change your diet
It can be easy to use food as a coping mechanism in difficult times. We might look forward to a takeaway after a long hard week, or motivate ourselves with snacks throughout the day. However, while treats are fine in moderation, our diet plays a huge part in our stress levels. Certain foods can reduce stress levels, while others can make us more stressed. Whole grains can boost your mood, for example, and avocados have stress-busting acids. But too much salt, sugar or fried food can enhance stress because they increase inflammation and the production of stress hormones. You may also find that drinking water helps.
Take a bath
Baths are notoriously relaxing. Hot water soothes the body and better prepares us for falling asleep. It can also relax the muscles and relieve any aches or pains. So, to reduce stress at the end of a long day, try taking a hot bubble bath with plenty of pleasant aromas. Lighting a candle and dimming the lights will enhance the relaxing atmosphere.
Exercise
While exercising might be the last thing you feel like doing when you’re stressed and anxious, it can be a great way to reduce stress levels. Exercising produces
endorphins which make you feel happier. We all know the feeling of finishing a workout or exercise regime and feeling instantly cheerier. Exercising also helps the
ability to sleep, which results in reducing stress. So, if you’re feeling a little stressed, try doing yoga, going for a run or even taking a brisk walk around the block. Working up a sweat and channelling your emotions always helps.
Distractions
Sometimes, thinking about stress only makes it worse. We’d much rather focus on something else for a bit. It’s important to keep your mind occupied and distract
yourself from the bad things that are happening. Reading a book or watching a film can take you out of your own mind and into the life of someone else. You’ll
remember that you’re not the only person feeling stressed – and it might put your problems into perspective. If you are struggling with stress there are a range of services available from BetterHelp to help you.
