The 3 Ways To Be More Patriotic This Year

Loving your country is something that many people love to show to others. Being patriotic comes in many forms and many people have their own way to feel proud of their country. For some, it is hanging the flag outside the home and wearing their Marine Corps apparel while others do things more under the radar.

The idea of loving your country is really about making it a better place to live. Although it is fine to show off your pride and patriotism, there are many ways to be a patriot that will impact the future and make the country a great place to live. In this article, we will go over several ways that you can be patriotic and help your country.

1 – Vote in every election

Unfortunately, voter turnout has been declining over the years. It seems that many people either can’t be bothered to turn up to vote or have difficulties making it to the polls for various reasons. The problem is especially evident when it comes to local elections.

It is everybody’s duty to take voting seriously and get out for every election. The only way to change things is to make sure that you are voting for people that you feel best represent your issues. If you don’t vote in elections besides just the presidential election then there are going to be mediocre politicians in charge of things that impact the lives of everybody.

If you really love your country then you will get out for every election from deciding on the local dog catcher to the president and every office in between.

2 – Support local businesses

Loving your country means loving your fellow countrymen. When you want to make a difference in their lives, you should be looking for ways to help them economically. This means supporting local businesses since those people are your neighbors.

Spending money in a faceless corporation only leads to money being siphoned off and ultimately spent on lobbying for things that generally go against your interests. Spending money locally means that there will be people around you that have money to improve the community and a tax base that supports local schools and infrastructure.

The idea is to think globally but to act locally so that you can actually make a difference.

3 – Get involved

A democracy is a government of the people and by the people. This means that you should be the government, too. If you really want to do your patriotic duty, you should think about serving the country or community by running for office.

You can’t really complain about politicians unless you decide to run yourself to fix the mistakes that you think others are making in your name. Take some issues you really believe in and run for your local office to help to solve them.

If you don’t want to run for office yourself, back a candidate that best represents what you want to see done in your community or country and volunteer for them. Donate your time and expertise to help get them elected and make a difference that way.
