How to Buy Shaving Products for your Partner
I don’t know about you, but I find men hard to buy for. They always seem to have everything they need – buying it for themselves before we get a chance! – so it can be really hard to know what to get when their birthdays or our anniversary comes around. I’ve teamed up with The English Shaving Company to bring this guide on buying shaving products for your partner.
Shaving products are a great way to give a gift that’s useful while still being that little bit special and luxurious. There’s a whole host of different present ideas under that category including razors, shaving soaps and aftershave.
Aftershave
Aftershave is a great option for a shaving gift because they come in such a variety. You can find aftershaves from The English Shaving Company for all different budgets. If you’re looking for a medium-sized gift, you could buy a few different varieties and put them together into a set. It’s great to have a range of different fragrances so your partner can mix it up whenever they fancy.
When you’re looking to buy an aftershave, check that it has both moisturising and disinfectant properties – most aftershaves do. There’s also a difference between aftershave cream and aftershave splash. Cream is much more moisturising and has a subtler scent that doesn’t last as long, while splash doesn’t have much in the way of moisturising properties, but has a longer lasting fragrance.
Choosing the perfect smell is down to personal preference! There are so many options. Bergamont, for example, is slightly floral, but in a subtle way that won’t take away from his masculinity! There are menthol options that leave a tingly sensation as well as citrus fragrances, such as lime and lemon.

Razors
Provided your husband doesn’t sport a beard, he’ll likely be using a razor on a semi-regular basis. There are so many different kinds of razors, but some are more luxurious than others. For example, a double edge safety razor is meant to be one of the best kinds. It produces a much closer and smoother result than standard cartridge razors and will feel a lot more opulent when he’s using it.
Double edge safety razors are also great because they’re much more environmentally friendly – certainly compared to disposable razors, but also in comparison to cartridge razors (such as Gillette or Mach3). They don’t have any plastic components and are completely reusable, lasting for years. (Source)
A safety razor is on the more pricey end of the different kinds of shaving products, especially if you want to buy a good one, but it makes the perfect gift for a birthday or other special occasion. You can even buy a set that includes a stand for the razor and shaving brush – just to go that little bit further!
When you’re looking to buy a razor for your partner, it’s worth finding out what he currently uses. A lot of guys will have been following the same shaving routine for years, so they might find switching it around a little daunting! Ask him if he’d consider a safety razor (especially given that it produces a better shave and is good for the environment) before you buy one.

Beard Products
If your partner has a beard, there are a lot of beard-related products you can get for him! Like with shaving products, these are useful but luxurious so it works as the perfect gift for your partner. There’s a huge range of different choices. Beard shampoos and conditioners are particularly great, especially if your partner doesn’t already use them, because they’re specially formulated for facial hair so they won’t dry out his skin or make his beard any more bristly than it already is!
Beard oil is also a must for anyone with facial hair. It is used to moisturise and condition the hairs, making his beard much softer and easier to control. (They also smell great!) They usually come in really little bottles – because he doesn’t need to use very much each time – so if you want to get a tiny present, it’s perfect! Beard oil is best applied using a comb, which you could also combine into a slightly bigger gift.
When it comes to buying a present for your partner, it’s rarely easy, but hopefully this guide has given you a few ideas for every occasion! Whether you’re looking to spend a little more as a birthday treat and get him a premium razor or want a small stocking-filler like some beard balm, there’s a shaving product that will work for him.
