Are You Ready To Start Teaching?

A lot of children growing up and starting to think about what they might like to be choose teaching. This makes sense; a teacher is the one career they are presented with every day and the one they can understand the most even as students. As they grow older, these children will start to forge their own paths and decide what they want to do based on their own interests and research, and teaching might no longer be something they are interested in.  

Yet for some, it remains a passion. Teaching, however, is not a career that you can rush into and a lot of thought needs to be put into it, even if you are sure it’s what you want to do. You must ask yourself if you are ready to start teaching and here are some of the ways you’ll know you are.  

Do You Have The Qualifications?  

The first thing to know about teaching is that you need specific qualifications to be able to do it. Are You Compassionate?  

Are you the kind of person who would want to do their job, teach the subject or subjects you need to and then nothing more? Or are you someone who would do more and not just showcase your knowledge but showcase your compassion too? This is one of the things that makes a great teacher stand out above good teachers (or even poor ones) and is what can make a huge difference.  

 It takes more than knowledge to be able to teach well. Think back to school and your own favorite teacher. He or she would have been the one who went out of their way to do more for their students. They would have helped not just in school but in every way, giving advice and boosting confidence. Could you do that?  

 Are You Passionate?  

As enjoyable and fulfilling as being a teacher is, it is also a hard job with long hours and a lot of extra work involved. Unless you are passionate about what you are doing, you won’t enjoy the job of teaching as much as you might have thought you would.  

Your working day won’t end when you leave the school; if you want to be a great teacher you will spend time not just marking work but encouraging and advising too. Plus you’ll want to create some amazing lessons, so you’ll spend extra time doing that.  

Unless you truly have a passion for teaching, you’ll soon become jaded with your work, so it’s crucial to know this from the start.
