5 unusual ways to brighten your walls!
When we think about brightening up our walls we tend to stick to the obvious choices – feature wallpaper, paint or some form of wall art. But what about when we want something a little more unusual and unique? Well I have five tips to brighten your walls using less obvious choices and each can give your home a real focal point and make a huge difference to the feel of a room!
1. Tapestries
I absolutely love wall tapestries and, although not commonly seen in modern homes, they can really brighten a wall and become a real talking point amongst your guests! Tapestries are the perfect way to add warmth and texture to your walls, creating a cosy in even the largest of rooms and, throughout the cooler months that is exactly what we need from our homes.
2. Chalkboard paint
Chalkboard paint may not be your first choice when it comes to your walls and yet it can bring a fun element to children’s rooms and playrooms which they can decorate to create unique drawings and designs. I love the idea of letting the children’s imaginations run free with brightly coloured chalks and it’s a very cost effective way to switch up a room!
3. A Map of the World
Instead of feature wallpaper I love the idea of hanging a large map to cover your walls! As a family who love to travel we enjoy looking at maps to plan our next adventures and so a world map is a great way to do this!
4. Paint a Mural
Painting a mural is a wonderful to bring some creativity to your home and express your artistic side on your walls. Dependent on the room you can go with a more abstract design, easily done even for the least artistic amongst us, a city landscape or an outdoor country scene, and for those who are feeling brave, even get the kids involved. I know my kids would love to help design a wall mural in the playroom!
5. Go Botanical
We have lots of plants in our home but I do plan on creating a plant wall with an entire wall filled with wall mounted plants and greenery. It’s a great way to bring the outside in and at this time when we are all stuck at home, we could all do with that!
