6 ways to prepare your home for the colder weather
Whether we want to accept it or not, it’s time to say goodbye to the Summer and embrace all things Autumn, and that means preparing for the colder weather creeping in! And whilst we will be switching flip flops for winter boots, it’s also a good idea to make sure that your home is ready for the weather change too. I am sharing my top tips on preparing your home for the colder weather.
Check your radiators
For most of us, we won’t have had our heating on throughout the Summer and so it’s always a good idea to check that they are all in good working order and set at the correct temperatures. It’s also a good idea to check whether they need bleeding, and you can read exactly how to do this here.
Secure roof tiles
With the change in weather it’s important to check your roof and look for any cracked, missing or loose tiles and replace them.
Get your boiler serviced
Having made the mistake of allowing our boiler to go unserviced, and breaking in December, I recommend having annual boiler services at this time of year. There is nothing worse than having no hot water or heating in the cold weather, trust me!
Clear your gutters
With the fall of Autumn leaves, gutters and drains tend to end up getting blocked which, if left, can build up and eventually cause a leak in the roof.
Keep your pipes covered
It’s so important that you apply lagging to any pipes and water tanks in exposed areas, such as the attic or garage, to prevent them freezing and busting in the cold weather.
Switch your energy supplier
Now is the time to shop around and switch energy suppliers for a better deal! Unless you want to end up paying a fortune to stay warm this Autumn/Winter, get switching!
