5 simple ways to keep the kids content on the road
We all know how arduous and boring long car journeys can be, and for any little ones in the car they’re probably dealing with double the frustration and double the boredom! Temper tantrums, arguments with their siblings and the endless question of – are we there yet? It’s enough to push anyone travelling to their absolute limit! So, what’s the solution?
As someone who travels frequently with little ones in tow, I’m going to share my top 5 simple ways to keep the kids content on the road. Good luck!
Activity packs
It may sound a little fussy and a lot of effort, but when you’re travelling with kids, activity packs are you new best friend. When you fill little bags with small toys, printable colouring and activity pages – discover HP ink cartridges from printerinks.com by clicking the link – modelling clay, puzzles and even a notebook and pens, you’re essentially keeping them occupied for at least a couple of hours! It’s up to you if you want to keep the activity packs a secret and then present them whilst on the road, however if you involve your little ones in filling up their activity packs they’re more likely to be better behaved so they actually get them!
Create a fun playlist
Even the catchiest of radio jingles can get irritating after a while, and when reception is bad no one wants to endure the frustration of endless radio static. Creating a fun playlist that’s bursting with all your children’s favourite songs is a sure fire way to keep them entertained and content. From party songs to nursery rhymes or just songs that are easy to sing along to, once everyone is singing along and having fun, they’ll soon forget how long they’ve been stuck in the car.
Make plenty of pit stops
Its tempting to just hit the road and reach your destination as quickly as possible. However, everyone will benefit from regular pit stops and opportunities to stretch their legs and enjoy some fresh air. You could incorporate a picnic into one of your stops or take the opportunity to stop off in a new town or city and check out some of the tourist spots. Either way, plenty of fresh air and regular movement might even encourage a nap or two!
Make them comfortable
Travelling by car isn’t always the comfiest way to get around. Especially if you’re strapped into a car seat! So, to avoid grumbles and complaints, make sure your little ones have travel pillows to support their heads if they fall asleep, blankets to keep them warm and light, loose clothing. Don’t forget their comforters either!
Tech
It’s natural to worry about letting your little ones have too much screen time. However, if you’re stuck in traffic or only making slow progress, sometimes things like tablets and smart devices are an absolute gift! Make sure they’re preloaded with age appropriate games that don’t need or have access to an internet connection. Let your children know that this screen time is a treat for good behaviour!
