5 Short Break Ideas For Mothers Day

If I could choose one gift for Mothers Day this year it would be to be whisked away for a weekend, with my favourite people, somewhere relaxing where we could just spend some time together. Nothing beats a short break away as a family and on occasions like Mothers Day they are even more special, so I’m keeping my fingers firmly crossed.

And if by some stroke of luck Gaz stumbles across my post this week and is looking for a few hints for Mothers Day, I thought I would share five of my favourite locations for short breaks to treat your Mum this Mothers Day.

1. Dorset

Dorset is, and always has been, one of my favourite places in the UK and somewhere which brings back happy memories of my childhood. We have had some amazing breaks over the last few years down in Lyme Regis, Weymouth and Bridport, and it never ceases to amaze me just how beautiful it is in that part of the country. There are some amazing holiday cottages in Dorset and I always think renting as cottage is such a lovely idea for families to create a real home away from home.

2. The Lake District

We are very fortunate to live just an hours drive from The Lake District and we have had so many lovey weekends and days out there over the years. Gaz and I actually got engaged on Lake Windermere and love returning with the children to share the story of how it all began. There are some gorgeous places to stay in the Lakes but I have a real soft spot for the boutique bed and breakfast’s there, with lots of quirky interiors and best of all, a proper full English breakfast in the morning.

3. Scottish Highlands

Another of my absolute favourite places in the UK is Scotland, and more specifically, the Scottish Highlands. Ever since I visited early last year, staying in the most amazing log cabins, I have been desperate to go back. The Highlands are the perfect location to really escape the stresses and worries of daily life, and just breathe again. A short break in a log cabin in the woods would be the perfect getaway for the six of us.

4. Anglesey

My favourite place to visit in Wales is Anglesey, and not just because of the ice cream (although I swear it’s the best I’ve ever tasted!) but because there is something very special about the island. We love to explore the countryside but also wander through the towns, see the sights and taken in the views across the water. I really want to rent one of the holiday apartments in Beaumaris and, with it being just an hour and a half away from home, it’s the perfect spot for a weekend break!

5. York

We love York and again have had some lovely holidays there over the years. Earlier this year we visited with the children and were amazed at just how much there was to do there with the kids. For Mother’s Day this year I would love to go back to York, enjoy afternoon tea back at Betty’s and spend our weekend exploring the surrounding areas. York has a whole range of accommodation but we are huge fans of the WigWams we stayed in previously and I think nothing beats getting all nice and cosy together looking up at the stars.
