3 simple ways to make your home feel cosy this Christmas
This year, more than ever, Christmas is all about staying at home and making the most of this time as a family. For us cosy days at home are pretty much standard right now and when the children aren’t in school you will find us in our warmest pyjamas, drinking hot chocolate, watching Christmas movies snuggled under a blanket. And actually, despite our sadness at the things we can’t do and the people we can’t see, it’s not a bad way to spend our time.
For that reason we have been making our home as cosy as possible for Christmas and injecting a little festive fun to make it feel extra special for the children. I thought I’d share my top five tips!
1. Add some festive lighting
Lighting is everything at this time of year and there is no better way to feel festive than with fairy lights! Not only do we have fairy lights on our Christmas tree but we find them around large potted plants in our home, hang them along the coving, around picture frames and mirrors and wrap them around the children’s bed frames. It’s a lovely way to make everywhere feel lovely and cosy!
2. Treat yourself to a rug
We recently had new carpets throughout our living rooms and yet at this time of year, it’s lovely to have that extra cosy factor and these made to measure rugs from Designer Carpet would be the perfect way of doing that! I love choosing rugs for our home in a completely different finish to our carpets to add a layered effect which really brings warmth and comfort, especially when it’s cold outside!
3. Switch up your soft furnishings
For those wanting to really inject some festivity you can easily switch up your soft furnishings for those with a Christmas touch. Cushion covers can be replaced for Christmas themed colours or scenes or add a few blankets in festive reds and tartans. I think introducing tartan into your home at this time of year always feels super festive without being overly Christmassy so you can still use those items all year round.
I’m looking forward to a cosy December, making the most of these moments snuggling up together safe at home, hoping that when Spring comes around we can welcome in some cool air and light and mix things up all over again. Until then, stay safe!
