As much as I love our home, and as hard as we are working to make it look exactly how we want it to, I am always envious of those who just naturally seem to know what works. Although I always have big ideas of what I want to achieve, I struggle to put it into practice and, if I’m totally honest, even when I do it never looks entirely as I had hoped it would! So when I was invited to view one of the beautiful show homes from the new Miller Homes site, The Landings, it was the perfect opportunity to pick up some ideas and also learn a little more about the new development just a short distance from our home.
The Landings is situated in the village of Coppull and is in the perfect location for all local amenities, motorways, countryside walks and most importantly for me as a parent, some fantastic schools. At one side of the landings is Coppull Mill, a Grade II listed building which was an important part of Lancashires’s cotton industry, the mill is now home to one of our favourite children’s play areas, a family pub and a number of small businesses, and adjacent to that you have a stunning lake, popular with walkers and anglers.
The great thing about Coppull is that although you have the benefits of a village location it’s still just three miles to the nearest railway station where you can be on the train to any of the larger cities in no time. Coppull itself has so much to offer families and one of the things which instantly struck me as I arrived at The Landings was just how peaceful and safe the development feels.
I was lucky to be shown around the show home at The Landings and couldn’t wait to see how the houses are styled and take away some top tips for styling our home for family living.
The living room in the Miller show house was beautiful and perfect for a growing family. I love the use of a large corner couch to maximise the seating area whilst still giving a spacious feel, and the feature wall adds a modern twist on a neutral decor.
I noticed that in each of the rooms the light features were very different and I love the idea of investing in some unique and good quality light fittings to really add that wow factor.
I think open plan living is so important for a family home and I loved how the kitchen diner was both modern and yet practical. I love the use of light colours in the kitchen with stream lined gloss units and neutral colours. Investing in a kitchen is a huge expenditure and I think going for a pale grey is such a sensible choice which can be accessorised differently should styles change.
Choosing integrated appliances is a sensible choice when it comes to designing your family kitchen so you can keep little hands away from pressing buttons and touching things they shouldn’t. I’d also recommend as much storage as possible as when it comes to kids, you’re going to need all the space you can get!
The use of down lighters above the dining table really helps to accentuate the dining space not to mention create a really warm and relaxing ambience. I love the use of benches with the dining table so this can be stored out of the way when not in use. Keeping your home as spacious as possible is really important when it comes to children!
For us as a family who works from home, an office space is so important. The show home here at The Landings had a small office room which could still double up as a fourth bedroom if necessary. For growing families it’s always great to have that option and using a sofa bed is a great way to double up office spaces as a spare room.
My top tip for styling a office space would again be storage. I know that I work far more effectively when everything is in it’s place and using handy desk storage trays means I save a lot of time when everything I need is close to hand.
The master bedroom in the Miller Homes show home is on the third floor, complete with a large en-suite bathroom and fitted wardrobes. Having spoken to the sales people at Miller Homes, they informed me that although many of the houses do not come with extras such as fitted wardrobes as standard, for those who wish to add these to their home this can be arranged prior to your moving date at an extra cost.
For us as parents, having a haven of calm and tranquility to escape to each night is paramount and for that reason I loved the colour scheme and decor chosen by Miller Homes. In stylish greys and the most beautiful deep blue, the bedroom has luxuriously soft carpets, velvet touch soft furnishings, and stylish furniture carefully chosen to compliment the colour palette.
There is no denying that Miller Homes know their stuff when it comes to style and I loved that each development has a different style decor, inspired by the area, the surroundings, and the use of local designers and products where possible.
Having looked around The Landings show home I have come away with so many inspiring ideas, colour schemes, and renovation plans (sorry Gaz!), and I can’t wait to get started. At the same time I can’t help but feel envious of the lucky family who buys the show home, (fully furnished at an extra cost) and starts their new life together in this beautiful home.
For anyone looking to purchase a home on The Landings development, or simply register their interest, you can pop along and speak to the sales team who are just the friendliest and most knowledgable bunch.
